If you look at the other end of that group of houses on Street View, the one with the rather inappropriate rustic oak fence shows that these properties are built on a steep slopes in both directions, so have basements. It seems some have them exposed at the front, others not.http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-50029584.html
I don't think I've ever seen anything like this before; it looks like they have excavated a tonne of earth outside an existing semi detached house to build a flat in the foundations
The house with the flat for sale had some kind of hole there. There's a plastic crush barrier in front of it. Looks like a developer bought the place when it was run-down.
Anyway, yes, the hole's much larger now!
EdIt: That flat hasn't much natural light, whatever the bright pictures imply.0 -
So this one is for sale "By Order of The Government Legal Department."
Wonder who's had their asset seized?
(Well it doesn't look like a government-owned bolt hole!)

Anyway, it's inaccurate to say Chulmleigh's a village. Yes, I have now driven right through it twice, in daytime, without seeing a single living soul, but it has a Town Hall and a mayor.

So it does...
and also looks like they divided off the back of the house and put a front door right next to existing front door.0 -

Floor plan suggests two flats in the lower ground (basement), whilst pictures suggest two more flats on the ground and first floor. Some investor has decided 4 flats are worth more than one house.0 -

There's the other basement flat.
Tiny living room 11 x 9, and apparently has a kitchen/dinner

Looking at the floor plan I am intrigued on how one enters the bathroom...

It's like going back to the 1960s, with an indoor outhouse.:eek:http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-50029584.html

I've driven past there at some point. It's on a relatively steep slope (at least by flat-as-a-pancake-London standards). There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
