That's a snooker table. The books might be there to stop the legs sinking into the carpet and keep the table level.

Did you notice that the blue sofa in the games room (pic 7) and the red armchair in the lounge (pic 2) are on raised platforms?

The satellite dish is in both photos - the fact that it is white means it is not so clear on the photo taken from the back of the property.
