As soon as I saw the Bridge over Troubled Gravel, I knew we were in for a treat:

No comment really necessary, but those of a PC disposition, look away now.....
Obsessive/Compulsive.
Pic13, the second bridge to nowhere, indicates a significant change in someone's life. It's the point where they probably completely lost it. I doubt there is any way back for them. The more they focussed on what to do with that toy bridge, the worse their condition became. Also note the gate to the left0 -
Now on a "Spot the REALLY 'modernised' places here" hunt.
One house just on market described as "fully modernised" and the tally is:
- Modern cookerhood - tick
- Modern tiles in kitchen and bathroom - tick
- Plain painted walls - tick
- Neutral floorcoverings - tick
But the "fails" are:
- its a very basic bath with cheap basic shower over (not a P-shaped showerbath or posh shower cubicle). Style is 10 years or so out of date.
- area of tarmac outside house (ie where nice flagstones or some proper "garden" should be)
- couple of other outdated things I won't mention, because they are identifiers.
Shouldn't complain really, as my house is now regarded as "Whoo-hoo...great" level and I've only just started. It really will be "Whoo-hoo- great" at some point, but its a long way from there yet...(ie posh flagstones - missing/conservatory - missing/kitchen is 10 years out of date and basic).0 -

What would you have in a place without mains gas, then?
I'm interested because there have been some spectacular fails with some of the new eco-technology when applied to older property, to say nothing of the double outlay costs.0 -

Beat me to it.
Wood (pressed pellets) maybe? LPG?They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
I concede there is possibly less chance of the door being kicked in by PC Savage, & the rooms are larger; but the Dali-lips headboard is pure upmarket Basildon.
Conclusion: there isn't really any place to escape in Britain0 -

LPG too expensive.
Pellet boiler x2 the price of oil to install and choose brand/fitters very carefully. A friend won their case against a company recently when the system failed to perform, but winning and getting money back are two separate things. Nothing for the bailiffs to seize!0 -
What would you have in a place without mains gas, then?
Cast iron woodburner in central kitchen; open plan well insulated shack with enough land to provide own fuel supply; in the wild west of a (set to fail) banana republic with mild winters?
NB: a degree of bias will be admitted to, after plenty of :beer:0 -
