Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 5th August 2011. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Another early morning for me but slept better last night :T:T:T
First off lot of love and luck to Jackie G for her sister and husband to be. I will be thinking about you all and really wish you a wonderful day. Also wedding vibes to Dazi xx
Lou - hope you are feeling ok xx
I love this talk of all these family dogs that can chase away the Black Dog. We are definitely thinking of getting an assistance dog as I think it would really help me with day to day stuff and be a steadying and reassuring presence when Im out. My only concern is how it would fit in with my two existing westies.
Well today I need to potter around getting stuff organised for my Centre Parcs trip next week. Kids are hyped up and looking forward to going and there wont be much OS but then you need a break once a year. Im not taking my laptop as I have decided that I need a break from the world wide web as I keep reading all the horror stories and it does nothing to help.
I will be around later to catch up on everyone's news and once again thank you for being here on OS xx

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Morning molly & everyone who follows
Been MIA for a while - just don't seem to get the chance for surfing at the minute! Hugs & kisses to those with good or bad news - probably missed loads.
Got to pop into town this morning, then working later so littlies going to SIL at lunchtime. Expecting work to arrive from magazine, so that will be my weekend task. Got behind with winter & Christmas prep as well, so more list-making in the offing!
Have a good morning all, will try to pop back & catch up.

Morning all! didn't manage to post yesterday. Not alot OS has gone on recently, we've eaten out 3 nights on the trot! Thats it for this month though, we've got enough food to see us through to the end of the month i reckon!
My puppy has destroyed all my flip flops, he stands on the back of them when i try to walk forward and they snap! So need to go to town tomorrow in search of foot wear and some hair straighteners.
OH was off to work at 5:30, so i walked the dog, was lovely a peaceful at that time of day.

Good morning Molly, Cheapskate, Bramble and everyone,
So glad you're feeling a little better Molly. The BD is a curse but you have lots of friends on here that will support wherever we can x
It is a beautiful sunny morning here at the moment. So I shall get WM going in a mo.
Weather was appalling yesterday. We visited MIL to take her out to lunch and we had to drive through several "floods" of 9 inches or more on the motorway and dual carriageways. The water was spraying up and it was seriously dangerous. Still we got there and back safely TG. Tea was hm pizza from the freezer with hg salad (leaves, herbs & tomatoes).
Food today will be freezer forage as very soon we need to have space for tomatoes. We go on holibobbles as well next week. I have last year's list and must make it suit this year's trip
JackeiG all the very best for today for you, your sister and BIL. Hope everything is perfect x
{{{{hugs}}}} to all who need or want.
Happy Friday peeps, cheers Silver xOutside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

Morning all,
Molly, Little dog is ready in the army to fight off the BD, she may only be small, but she has huge attitude, enjoy your holiday.
Hope all goes well today for Jackie G and her sis, cant wait to see pics x
Dazi, hope all goes well for tomorrow, again, pics please
Sistercas, Happy Anniversary, and enjoy the picnic, the castle looks great x
Wet and overcast here again, off to work for me, dd has a friend coming later on, dd has to get the bus to the next village meet the friend off the train, then they walk back over the fields, the walk takes about 40 mins - 1 hour, there is only one bus per day out of our village and none back in, and they wonder why people dont use public transort :rotfl:
Meatalls for dinner tonight, last of my bargain stash, dd normally cooks, but seeing as her friend is here I will probably do it. Have to make the meatballs stretch to three, so may make a pasta bake with them.
This weekend we need to go out and get all the odd bits for the bathroom, paint, plywood, grout etc, then sat afternoon I will go and see dad.
Washing to do tonight, but looks like it will be over the airer, hope it brightens up tomorrow.
Have good days all xx0 -
Dazi - all the best for tomorrow x
Sistercas - enjoy the picnic. Might need a waterproof groundsheet to sit on after all the rain yesterday.
Redruby - hope your dad is OK
{{{Hugs}}} Lou
DH and I always kiss if one of us is leaving the house, and often kiss in the kitchen for some reason. The kids all go "Eeeuuuw, get a room!". This is our house, they're all supposed to have left homeOutside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read.

Morning everyone
Jackie G - hope your sis and BIL have a great day x
Dry, bright, sunny and warm again here this morning. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock. Washing already out on the line. Boys still in their pits so enjoying a peaceful house - won't be for long though!!
Need to go to the bank then food shopping this morning, when I come back will try to get some baking/cooking done. Have a couple of bags of stuff to take to the CS after getting boys to do another clear up in their bedrooms yesterday afternoon, also have taken several photos to put onto e**y so will need to do that at some point too. Had a bit of a shredding marathon yesterday too, why do we accumulate so many bits of paper??
Haven't decided what's for dinner tonight yet - but it will be something reasonably easy - will have a look whilst I'm shopping. The bread dough I made yesterday turned out really well and rose so much it was touching the lid of the BM - can only think it was because it was a new bag of bread flour - the bread tasted excellent too.
Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Oh thank you. I find that the little dogs are the ones with biggest attitude. It's the same with mine and Molly dog has certainly been guarding me against any intruders as she never left my side yesterday :T:T:T
Found this report and thought it sounded very OS. Certainly my kids had those types of play opportunities when they were younger and we specifically moved to an area with lots of open spaces so they could "play out".
Anyway going to have a potter and find some washing - now that wont be too hard !I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

Good Morning all, beautiful sunny day here in the Medway valley, and hopefully I will get down to the country park today with the boys and maybe even get some blackberries.Only one more week to go this Sunday before we are off on our two week holiday to the ioW and I can't wait to go.It brings back such happy memories for us as my late OH was born there and we spent many summers ther with my ma-in-law at her house when the children were small.OH would take us down there on a Friday night and DDs and I would stay for most of the 6 week holidays in the summer and OH would come down at week-ends.Ma-in-law had a big enough house to accomodate us all so it wasn't a problem and the girls would spend most of the holiday running around the fields locally or on the beach at Sticelet where ma-in-law had a chalet and a caravan that all the family used to cook our meals in during the day. This year we are going to just outside Ventnor at Wheelers Bay and my DGS Ben thinks he will be in heaven as he can fish for a fortnight if he wants as its only 100 yards from the beach.
The boys are packing already all their treasures to take with them.Mikey has a favorite teddy that goes everywhere with him its a bit threadbare but he loves it,We have to give it a wash and tidy up before we go so as its sunny I will do that this morning.
Henry takes his football and cricket bat and Jack takes his favourite books.I also take both my Kindle, and a pile of books to read. The house we have rented has a Victorian verandah overlooking the sea so I shall find a nice chair to sit in and will be quite happy parked there with my booksand a nice G&T with ice and slice .I'm easily pleased really.I am slowly emptying my fridge out of fresh stuff so not a lot of shopping to get this week at all.
I hope all is running to plan JackieG and your sis and BIL have a fabulous day today.
Dazi good luck for tomorrow
and Sister cas enjoy your picnic it sounds great.
I hope everyone has a good day today I will probably see my eldest DD at some point over the weekend and pick up a pile of books that she brought back from her holidays. She always has the first week of the summer holiday away and I always get her holiday reads. She also has a week in Devon at the end of August with her in-laws family. She works in education as a business manager for a special-needs school so she is always worn out by the time the summer holidays are here.
Right I'm off to rummage for some breakfast and a large coffee.Take care all
JackieO xx
P.S. Lou have a cuddle from an old woman and ignore your horrible family0 -
Morning all - hope all are as well as can be
Am doing final pack and shop today as we go away tomorrow to the Edinburgh Tattoo and Fringe. Am childishly excited. DS comes back from Walsingham Youth Pilgrimage tonight so dying to see him (not so delighted about the rush of washing that will need to be done!) Bought a pair of flipflops in the sale yesterday, but the sales asst left the security tag on and I'm too scared to cut it off as I'm sure I'll get sprayed in security ink! Will have to find a minute to pop back today - luckily I've got the receipt.
DH and DS have been having a sunflower growing competition, one sunflower fed with DH's compost, one with DS's compost - both are well over 7ft tall - DHs is technically taller, but is growing at quite an angle, so if we're measuring from the ground up, rather than length of stem DS will win! DS will get style points as his sunflower has lots of little flowerheads going up the stem, whereas DH's only has the top flower.
Silvermaid - I love that you get that reaction to kissing too - can't wait til DS is old enough (11 now) so I can respond in the 'you should have left home by now' manner!!0
