Hi Wig,I just go to post office with a payment card and pay the amount thats stated weekly.Usually go on Saturdays as no queues. If I change too Ebico I would still take weekly readings and put amount I have used by so when bill came in there isnt the usual "oh not another bill" sort of feeling

    Chas,

    Warning
I just wanted to be sure the UW price was correct because they have these stupid annual membership fees. The switch site says the membership fee of £22 is included in the £732. I just checked that as follows

    Annual use 14624 kwh
    Day 1463 kwh @ 8.680p .......= £126.98
    Night 13161 kwh @ 3.750p........= £493.53
    Standing charge 30.51p per day = £111.35

    Total ....................................= £732

Unless the standing charge rate includes the £22 member fee, the total could be £754

I have been to UW website and they will not give a price for a prepayment meter. They also do not illustrate what their prices are for prepayment meters. So until you confirm whether the £22 is included or not you might not want to go ahead with UW.

The Ebico price and the UW price are both prepayment prices, You will be still getting your token from the post office just like you do now only it will be a lot cheaper. You don't have to save money up for your bill.

if your paying £24 a week then your using around 35 units a day which is 12410 units a year! baring in mind you dont have gas, the £24 isnt bad but it will be hard you being a single parent.
To save money ensure the heaters only come on when the night mode is triggered 11pm - 6am or 7am, the heaters may not last all of 4 hours if they dont then you can ask the council to a, fit new bricks or b, fit some new oil filled jobbies.
Ensure you dont use the 'boost' as this will use day rate electric.

also ensure your tarrif is a 2 rate tarrif as some providers get it wrong hence a higher bill than usual

As with all this type of metering if there is a time clock fitted you must make sure the time is correct or you will pay the wrong rate.
All the modern night / day rate meters are set by radio signal so they will not be wrong.Old style clocks have to altered manually be the electric supplier.
    Cheers
  • after reading this i noticed that on your cheap night electricity you use this for heating, hot water and the fridge freezer, it might be helpful if you were to buy a timer plug for your washing machine as this might save you a bit of money

i have night storage and always put the washing machine and dishwasher to start at the cheap electric time, i also never put my water heater on during the day as i find that if its on at night its usually enough for the hot water and we have an electric shower i try really hard to stick to using as much electric as possible at night to cut down on the day and for my three bedroom house with four of us here my 3 month electric bill (i dont have any gas) was 112.76
