Can someone tell me and OP how to work out the percentage of nighttime use with economy 7. maybe you have to work out from old bills 'kwh night' 'kwh Day' and then calculate a percentage or does the meter display a percentage? (doubtful). I suppose SWALEC should be able to tell her?

OP, to work out your annual useage, if you have some old bills I could help you, I would need a bill from about a year ago - which was an "actual reading bill", and you would have to say what the readings were and the bill date. Then you would have to give me todays readings.

Or you can phone SWALEC or we can do both.

if your paying £24 a week then your using around 35 units a day which is 12410 units a year! baring in mind you dont have gas, the £24 isnt bad but it will be hard you being a single parent.
To save money ensure the heaters only come on when the night mode is triggered 11pm - 6am or 7am, the heaters may not last all of 4 hours if they dont then you can ask the council to a, fit new bricks or b, fit some new oil filled jobbies.
Ensure you dont use the 'boost' as this will use day rate electric.

also ensure your tarrif is a 2 rate tarrif as some providers get it wrong hence a higher bill than usual

Do see if you can improve savings by checking Ebico prices, they come out as one of the cheapest

  • Dollarjon I do try to put heaters on when its low from midnight till 8am. I dont use the boost control. I turn everything off at the sockets when not in use, I only have 1 light on in the evening I dont have baths we shower. I really do try and keep what electic down to the min. I had a phone call yesterday from a woman who says the council are willing to put in gas heating for me but I have to go to the office first name drop and then see what happens.

    Hang on blinking,

This method doesn't sound credible to me. It assumes

*Both meters were zero when installed
*All useage on the meters has been used by the current occupier
*All previous usage is indicative of todays usage characteristics

I think a much more accurate method would be to look at a previous "actual reading" bill of about 1 year old compare to current meter reading and make a calculation. Like I said I am willing to do that for you.

Edit: Chas was supplying the correct annual figures, I thought because of the high value the figures were meter totals.

As I understand it the £24 includes a debt payment.

    Hi,

    That is now 89%

    Total A + Total B = C

    C/100 = X

    Total A/X = % of use

But I don't like doing it on the meter totals, it's too open for errors.

However, I am intrigued, how on Earth do you use so much electricity at night? If you would also like me to check your useage over the last year, just provide me with a bill from about year ago with the reading "actual" give me the readings on the meter and the bill date. Then give me your current readings if not different from the ones you give above.
