Hi wig, those are readings that i have but will get them and send to you. These are all actual readings and none of them estimates.I have 2 storage heaters downstairs and 1 upstairs.Downstairs are on high all the time just now and upstairs about halfway.Only other thing thats on during night is immersion heater, fridge freezer.Hope you can fathom all that out as took me ages.I,m with Staywarm at moment and just had their letter saying that my payments will be £17.63 per week as from 24/1/07

Hello Chas,
I didn't see your reply here, I found your Private message to me, and replied this to you earlier on. As you have put this in the thread aswell, I will paste my earlier reply to you here. Which is better for me because I can now ask everyone what does the "control" reference mean on Chas's bills?

My earlier reply to you in private message
Chas,
Sorry to say this isn't making much sense to me
5/12/05-control-4887 5/12/06-day-26606--night--84914

What does "control" mean? Is the word "control" written on the bill?
The meter change over is an added confusion but we will deal with it.
The new meter...did not start at zero then?
Why did they change the meter?
You have the "new meter" day and night mixed up between Oct and December
Which is the 84767 day or night?
Which is the 25067 day or night?
I was hoping for you to give me something like this, and this is my interpretation of the figures you gave me. Please tell me if I got it right

I need you to confirm all these readings are correct or which ones are incorrect.0 -

Ok so we now have...the following can you confirm all these are correct, and which one is supposed to be "day" on the new meter?

Hope that sorts it out a bit more easily,Thanks0 -
Meter read 5/12/05
meter readings:
Control - 48887
Day - 8113
Night - 8405
Meter read 24/10/06
meter readings:
Control - 58696...........total difference 9809
Day - 9517..................total difference 1404
Night - 9931..................total difference 1526
New meter 24/10/06
meter readings:
Day - 84738
Night - 24897
Meter read 5/12/06
Day - 84914......................Total difference 176
Night - 26606....................Total difference 1709
Total Day 1580 same as you said earlier in the thread
Total night 3235 Greatly different from your earlier figure but I see you added the control difference of 9809 to make
Total night 13044
hmmmm as I said I'm going to find out about this "control" number but you must be right because the percentage uses are as follows (using the control as a night time rate).
first 2 bills = 89%
second 2 bills = 90.4%
combined 4 bills = 89.2%
If this use of the control figure is correct that means your Annual kwh used is
14624kwh WOW!
Noting that you live in Glasgow I find from the the switch site energyhelpline:
Powergen Age Concern - prepayment meter (The tariff I think you are on now) £957 per year You say you are paying £17.63 per week, I estimate that it should be £18.40 per week.
Utility Warehouse (they get a bad press from some people & they will try to sell you all sorts of other stuff, gas telephone, mobile, internet) £732 per year £14.07 per week
Ebico equipower (I highly recommend) £774 per year £14.88 per week.
But we can't ignore the fact that this is £42 more than Utility warehouse.
Scottish Hydro Electric £858
EDF £870
Scottish Power £8800 -
yes thats them all in order now thanks0
-
Hey Chas,
I edited the post above, interesting reading for you!
Do you use Gas?
I don't know why you use prepayment, but if you changed your meter (and I don't know how difficult that is to get done) ......
Powergen would be £900 you could ask them to change the meter before you moved supplier.
Utility warehouse would be £672
British Gas - Regional Discounted Electricity £612 (with an extra £15 sign up cashback for new to BG customers)0 -
Thanks Wig,The £17.63 i,ve been quoted from powergen staywarm is for 2007 and had been looking at ebico and that seemed better deal unless they up prices like southern has from1/1/07.I dont have gas just the storage heaters which were renewed last year as we dont have gas in our terrace. Its not a key meter i have and just pay weekly at post office0
-
Where do you buy the vouchers from the 17.63 tokens? Is the idea that the payments are by the use of tokens spread out throughout the year? So if you use more electricity your meter does not switch off asking you for more money?
Utility warehouse guarantees to be lower than the local supplier. Which might imply that if your local supplier raises prices UW might increase their prices.
Ebico on the other hand has no such agreement they just have low prices and have a record of only raising prices when they really have to.
I have no evidence to back this up but my feeling is that UW is more likely to raise than Ebico in the event prices start to go up.
In the event prices start to fall UW is less likely to lower than Ebico. Again just my own personal feeling based on being a customer of Ebico.0
