  • advertising fopp on a "we're sad bout music zone" page?!?!?!? SHAME ON YOU!
  • Not sure on the story with FOPP, but from day one there has been a problem with ownership of th stock that had not been paid for. Court action was taken by the suppliers to stop us selling it. The suppliers would not play ball with either the management buyout or FOPP, so this is why the stores closed yesterday. Through the grape vine we heard that plans were in place for the suppliers to enter the shops and take back the stock. T.H.E. is owned by E.U.K and they are owned by Woolworths. Not only are Woolworths responsible for the downfall of MVC they are also responsible for the final swan dive of Music Zone. The high street will be a much poorer place without Music Zone. Good luck guys with the job hunting!

slightly pretentious ie coffee shop and 50 diff genres of music.
Why is having a wide selection of different types of music pretentious? That's what makes it such an interesting shop! Prices are very reasonable too. Hope we get one in Leeds sometime soon.

maybe, im just still really GRRRR bout the whole thing, i guess i was hoping for a miracle. i actually really enjoyed my time at MZ, worked with amazing people, listened to tunes all day, had fun.

I realise that, you are correct though MZ was a good place, there was 2 in Glasgow(one only just opened a few months back i think) and they always had friendly staff, great prices and were always the first place my friends and I would go to over HMV and Virgin or any other CD/DVD retailer, it will be missed.
    Bought, not Brought
  • It's sad Music Zone disappearing into the ether, I thought that it would be a bit longer than this to close all the stores, since unlike MVC, it was still selling full price Dvds and Cds this week. MVC jobbed as much stock off cheap as it could before the end. Woolworths to blame again for the downfall. Good luck to all the staff of Music Zone in finding new jobs.
  • I agree with what you say about Tesco, they are seeking to destroy every other business ruthlessly. As for BOI, I have been deliberating whether or not to withdraw our accounts (Company & Private) you have just made up my mind for me. Thanks Rick and all the best to you all. Hope you get a backer.
  • Fopp have now taken over Music Zone - very surprised to not see any info here. They now have 114 stores making them bigger than Virgin and now 2nd largest in the UK (HMV first). I originally worked for MVC then Music Zone and have survived yet another take-over. Fopp will succeed where Music Zone failed especially in minority sections like Jazz etc, Music Zone sold cheap tate and (product wise) were an awful company to work for, you were expected to sell the same old rubbish over again. They had 1.97 CD's that didn't even feature original recordings and sold !!!!!! DVD's like Shark Attack 3 - no wonder the bank pulled the plug, they didn't deserve to have any money thrown at them. Good riddance Music Zone you were the pound stretcher of the music bizz.
  • That's the spirit! Bell end. They'd all be better off without you.
  • Does this mean that the staff in the stores that Fopp bought off the administrators will keep their jobs?. If so, that's a really good result!.;)
  • In a local shopping centre , in a small southern town , just before xmas FOPP opened up almost next door to MZ ? Today music zone had doors shut but 6 staff in there? so my question is ... which shop will be FOPP ?
Also just an observation but is there really any need to get at each other ? being nasty helps no one particularly not people who now have to look for new jobs !:confused:
