Music Zone in Administration

Just found this....
From Musicweek.co.uk
Music Zone is to cease trading with the loss of 800 jobs, after administrator Deloitte And Touche revealed that is has failed to find a buyer for the business in the time available.
Deloitte says that while discussions continue as regards the business, trading has ceased at this time as there is no certainty that any sale can be achieved.
Music Zone was placed into administration on January 3 and Bill Dawson from Deloitte’s Reorganisation Services division was appointed administrator.0 -
The music zone where I work (walsall) was still open today but the Bullring branch was closed.0

Time to spread some lights.
I was on one of the close down teams that was emptying out last weeks casualties, very depressing i might add, and i felt very guilty. THE WORST PART OF WHICH was that, i spent my last day in another damn store. After the amount of time ive been there that was heartbreaking.
Luckily i spent a lot of time with higher staff and got some know out of all this.
To Summarise:
* Fopp were going to buy us until late last night (24.01.07) until an unknown (to me) complication arose.
* This morning, for the first time in UK history ALL major music/dvd suppliers had the end to their tantrum and through their blind greed slapped a court injunction that cost everyone their jobs, because they couldnt wait, say maybe, ONE MORE DAY to let another chain sell their stock. :T
* The management buyout failed as no financial backing could be found.
* The redundant staff maybe brought back temporarily should the need arise to empty out the stores, under supervision from supplier lurches.
Speculation alert:
Dont read into this too much, and any employees who read this dont get your hopes up, BUT, it is rumoured that Fopp still wish to obtain the empty sites (figure i heard was 10-25) of some of the MZ's, (once the smoke and dust has cleared from the biggest retail supplier strop ever, which by the way, my heart bleeds over.....) and hire the old staff who've not moved on to run their stores, as to avoid the long hard trawl of learning the trade from the bottom rung. They also seek to improve their infrastructure at their HO, and are allegedly going to be headhunting from the upper echelons of the company.
Again, this maybe SPECULATION, please dont get your hopes up.0 -
Who's FOPP btw? Not heard of them ...0

fopp - i think theyr mainly down south, there is one in manchester city centre, sell dvds and cds. slightly pretentious ie coffee shop and 50 diff genres of music.0

Fopp began in Glasgow actually. The staff in the two stores in Glasgow are all very helpful and the CDs are reasonably priced. More can be found here:
