Music Zone's prices are so cheap - I dont understand why they didnt sell over the internet and have a website?? Surely they could have competed with cdwow, play etc??
Must be cheaper to have a warehouse and distribution centre, than to pay rent on shops?0 -

I wish you and you colleagues all the best and hope your jobs are secure.
I used to work for Anker systems who supplied your EPOS equipment and always found Steve Oliver to be a stand up guy.
Good luck.No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
Hope Music Zone stay in business as I tend to buy a few DVD's from their if I go into town when i don't order on the internet as sometimes I cant be bothered waiting for internet deliveries, even though the prices may not be as cheap as they used to be they still are a lot cheaper than other highstreet stores including HMV and Virgin who are more expensive
I am surprised that Music Zone never had a website which you could order from as I am sure they would make a good profit and have a big customer base but they would have to compete with places like play.com,dvd.co.uk and CD WOW.0 -

Thanks for getting your mum Zone vouchers for Christmas (its one of the products I buy for the company and I can't believe how many we sold this Christmas- over a 400% rise LFL on vouchers this Xmas). In answer to your question, your mum can still reedeem her vouchers in the Zone. She won't get any cash change though so she should do her best to max out the voucher.
We have 80% Off Sale running at the moment with over 4000 lines of stock in the Sale so hopefully there should be something she wants.
Must say, things are looking positive in the office today and hopefully there won't be the need for any redundancies. We are fighters here and don't want our little baby to fall flat on its nose.
Thanks for the reply Rick! Good to know she'll be fine using them she's CD obsessed. Glad there may not be redundancies. Have to own up tho I work fer Asda lol tho I don't like what the effect is on other companies0 -

They had a notice on the window stating that as they were in admin. they weren't accepting cheque or cards - just cash.
Nothing else. No closing down stuff or cheap stuff. They have only just opened in Stafford, about a month ago! But they look v.overpriced on some items.
Music Zone, who bought 40 of MVC shops when they went bust, said that custom over Christmas was no where near the level they expected and internet sales had hurt them. (Read that somewhere?)
I just checked their site because I was sure it was this company that had just come to Stafford. Thanks.Student MoneySaving Club member 017!0 -
Well my Mum got three CD's today with her £15.00 vouchers & is all happy so it's all worked out fine! Sounds mad but I like vouchers the new giftcards everywhere do bug the hell outta me tho I can see their advantages0

Hi Rick
Just found this site and it's nice to see someone from Head Office communicating the situation to everyone!
I work at one of the Dorset Music Zones and I have to say we are reeling from the news. Having been through this with MVC makes it no easier to deal with, probably makes us more cynical, but we are all hoping that MZ pulls through.
Despite the lack of information coming down from Delloitte it's obvious to any ex-MVC team members that MZ are in a vastly better position than we were a year ago. Our store has just had the best Q4 we've ever had, the 21st - 23rd December alone produced takings that would take us 3 weeks to take usually.
Oh and just clear up any confusion MVC started life in Ealing as Titles Music and Video Club (hence the club card) back in 1991 and expanded to nearly 100 stores by 2004 changing it's name to MVC on the way. We were owned by Kingfisher but devolved when Woolworths left and finally sold to a group of Venture Capitalists in mid '05. We went into Administration on the 18th December 2005 but were lucky enough to be one of the 43 stores rescued by Music Zone in early January 2006.
MVC were always the underdog on the highstreet and their prices reflected their 'Southern' birth with higher prices than they would have liked. Music Zone was a revelation to most of us, cheap prices without resorting to the internet and a management team with a vision for the future.
It's difficult but we are used to battling through!
Thanks for the info and hope that we get back to business as usual soon!
Oh and when are we likely to get more poster stock?? We are losing sales like mad!!0 -
Thanks Rick
Its good to hear from someone at head office about the situation.
I also work for music zone and its always good to hear anything positive.
Deloitte seemed to be positive about the outcome when they visited us.
Fingers crossed.0 -
I like music zones prices, but they need to develope a decent website and organise themselves instore properly.
If im looking for a dvd, first place i look is online. I often search hmv website etc then go into the store to purchase. This rules music zone out for me as their website is of no use.
Whenever i go into a music zone, it can be frustrating to find an item, with some ranges located out of sync, or ironically the one thing i wanted is not where it is supposed to be.0 -
My partner worked for one of the few MVC stores that Music Zone didn't buy. I never really understood why not, since it took lots of money and was on a nice retail park in North Wales. Anyhoo, I did think that Music Zone was becoming MVC, especially before Christmas. It's sad for the people who worked for MVC and were sort of saved by Music Zone, but I never liked it, too cheap and nasty. I don't know who's left to save them with HMV and Woolworths in trouble and Virgin, which has been up for sale for years.0
