Hi all!
It's raining here too. Typical. I spent yesterday evening watering the weeds in the hope of softening the ground enough to pull some of them out today. Ah well....back to the ironing.
Mollie: I guess most of us have had a BD to some extent at times. I remember it well! All I can say is, that although it seems impossible, everything does pass eventually. The only thing you can do is hang on in there and be kind to yourself. Reading through today's posts it is obvious you have loads of people rooting for you.
JackieG: enjoy every minute of tomorrow.
A friend with a plum tree offered me 'a few plums'. I expected a small bag, not the huge plastic sackful that is now sitting in my kitchen. OH has just informed me 'I've never cared much for plums'. First I've heard of it. Will have to make loads of plum tarts and crumble and freeze them to inflict on visitors this winter.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Good afternoon everyone.
I'm a newby here, although I've been a subscriber to Martin's email for a while. (I've known about his writing for years - I have a copy of "A Fool and His Money" which I brought in the mid 1990's.)
A quick introduction to me: I'm a knitter, a foodie and an aspiring but very bad gardener. I'm married, no pets (want a dog) and no kids (want one or two of those but IVF is my only option and it costs). I sing in my local choir and play RPGs.
Today's my birthday and I've decided to set some goals for the next year, some financial, some not. Anyway, I thought I'd share the financial ones with you:-- To plan better and live within The Budget. Our budget is pretty tight; my husband was made redundant nearly 2 years ago and currently earns 1/3 of what he did back then. All the bills are covered and we each have a small allowance. However, we've got some major expenditures on the horizon and I need to ensure there is enough money set aside for those. (My car has clocked 239,000 miles so funding a replacement is a priority.)
- To continue paying off the "house renovation debt", which is currently parked on a 0% credit card. (Just after DH was made redundant, our kitchen roof deteriorated to the point where we had to replace it just to maintain the fabric of the building and then the boiler went. And the wiring needed replacing. Thanks to some badly thought out 1970's renovations, we had to gut the entire downstairs in order to fix things. We had a reasonable amount of money set aside for the building work but, as is the nature of these things, contingency funds are never enough. And we didn't cover DH's share of the mortgage during when he was unemployed - it was paid out of overdraft - so we ran up a sizeable overdraft which I transferred to a 0% card.)
- This one might not sound financial, but it is: to only knit or sew from stash until my next birthday. I haven't quite achieved "SABLE" (stash acquisition beyond life expectancy) but I have enough yarn to last me through most of the next decade. That's a lot of money tied up in woolly goodness.
I am allowing myself three "exceptions": souvenir yarn from our trip to France in September; £60 for a blowout fund at the Knit & Stitch Show at Ally Pally in October; and £60 for a blowout at some other time.

BB, I'm getting very suspicious about the speed with which you are able to translate the messages Reverbe is getting, sound to me like you have been spending far too much time on these dating sites!
I'm only joking, I would run for cover, but she knows where I live, lol.

Yes I am very lucky and totally undeserving of all the help and support. You really are a fantastic group of people.
Thank you for reminding me of a very comforting statement....
"...this too shall pass"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Afternoon all
Think you lot need a bucket of cold water - all this chat about kissing!! We like a good kiss in this house too!! We'll be celebrating our 19th wedding anniversary in September.
Have had continous rain since we got up this morning - at least it's giving the garden a much needed drink!
Have been to buy school shoes, bought DS1 school shoes, bought DS2 school shoes and school trainers for PE total spend £107 - and that includes a £5 discount off the school trainers! Then on to shop to buy school polo shirts that have logo on them total spend £35, then into MrT to buy black school trousers - 2 pairs for £9 but used clubcard vouchers so no cost - just as well really been an expensive day!! Think we're going to be on bread and water for a while!!
Have done the small pile of ironing, and small load finished in WM - will hang that out tomorrow as it's supposed to be dry.
DS2 is now cleaning up his bedroom - not expecting to see him for a while - there's loads in there that needs sorting!! He's being a bit of a stroppy teenager at the moment so best he stays in there and gets the job done, he wasn't very pleasant to me earlier and said some rather nasty things so he needs to stay in his room and think about what he said.
Other than that, need to put ingredients into BM to make dough - will finish off by hand and have HM loaf to accompany tonight's dinner.
