EDF: The biggest price-hike yet?

I'm a newbie, but was so incensed that I just had to spread this absolutely shocking discovery!
In December 2010, I signed up for EDF's Online S@ver Version 7 for dual fuel. The switchover was horrendous, but that's another story!
Now this is crucial: I was eventually told that EDF only bill you 6-monthly. After all the switchover problems I had had, their Customer Liason person said that she would produce me a bill every 3-months if I emailed her personally with my meter readings (I have been sending meter readings, quarterly, to all my suppliers for the last 10 years at least.)
Because she produced me a bill at the end of July, I discovered that on 14th July 2011, EDF had INCREASED their Online S@ver prices by:
Gas +19%
Electricity +30.4%
Yes, those calculations have been confirmed by EDF (They made minor REDUCTIONS on their Daily Charges.)
As far as I am aware, no newspaper or commentator has picked up on these! Remember, that is not for a new 'Fixed Price' - they could do the same next month if they felt like it.
If I hadn't had a special arrangement to get a quarterly bill, I would have been unaware of this increase until November!!!
The first casualty of Government Cuts should have been OFGEM - they are nothing but a waste of space.

  • Actually you would have been informed , in writing , to the price increase at least 2 months ago - remember that OS7 did NOT increase , like all the other tarrifs on march 1st. So was actually the cheapest on the market till this belated price increase - you (like myself and many others ) had last years prices held for 8 months or so.

Now for me - Fixed S@ver v2 is actually cheaper than the new OS7 prices - and they are fixed till september 2012 , so personally i moved allready.

thats the thread on MSE - which started when people started receiving the letters giving the price increase - 40% below standard was the pricing pre increase - or , as i said in that thread - did you expect prices to remain that low? no - they increased the tarrif to be 2% below standard - the nice thing is though , we got an extra 2 1/2 months after all the others went up.

I don't think that (the last point) is true. OS7 has been done to death in this Forum.

If you Google "EDF online saver" and select an obvious link you should get a "heads-up" on what may (or may not) have happened.

There is another recent thread which refers to a price rise announcement. If you study the thread you may learn something to your advantage.

  • Well, thanks everybody. I'm glad I am not alone, but one of my points was that WHICH?, Martin himself, the Daily Press, didn't latch on to the OS7 increase, though they poured their wrath on good old British Gas. Unfortunately, all the Forum inches doesn't have the same effect, but at least I shall be keeping in touch from now on when something like this happens!! Some of the links you have sent have had some amazing detail.
However, although I confess that there were 2 messages sitting inside my EDF online mailbox, I definitely did NOT get notification through the post!
    Keep fighting!
  • well in a way they did - since EDF raised all tarrif prices in march `the winter guarantee` they offered except OS7 which was raised in july - 3 months of being 40% cheaper than standard to pay off xmas is really too good to be true - but it was and i personally got ahead and then fixed.
