you think thats bad!! I had a plaintain thrown at me in Brixton once...he said.." Baby, can you cook!"
Well, it's an approach I suppose. I have to say you do seem to get lot more vegetable related incident than I do.:D

I have been told you can get bones for soup/stew at Borough market for free. Again, need to assert myself and ask for some - and I was there this afternoon! I think supermarkets have trained me to not want to be hassled by people being helpful! It's really bad!:o

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!
  • Okay so i went to Peckham on Saturday and got my oxtail..
Big and chunky £6.99 for 2 kilos. (have no idea if that is a good price or not?)
Not scary at all... but a bunch of very interesting characters..
also picked up a few crab claws as a little treat.. yum yum..

Oooooh, which shop did you go in? And was the oxtail fresh or pre-frozen?

Another question for the locals... has anybody ever tried shopping at Rose Brothers fishmonger in Walworth, on that little parade of shops between the Aylesbury and Heygate estates? If so, any good?

  • Bargain Rzl- the Oxtail was fresh.. not sure the name of the store but it is the first butchers you come to when walking up the high street(subway on the corner) on the same side. the store looked very clean too which was very important to me
  • I'm also in SE15 and I like the local shops on Nunhead Lane/Evelina Road, they have a butchers, green grocers, bakery and a fish mongers. I also go to Dennis butchers opposite the peckham bus garage on Queens Road!!

    :D
  • Bargain Rzl.. have you found any new gems in SE5/SE15??

Not in the immediate vicinity, but I DID pay a visit to Lewisham Market a couple of weeks ago and bought:

Sweet potatoes, heaped bowlful (filled half a carrier bag), £1
Apples (Cox's by the looks of them), heaped bowlful (more than 20 apples), £1
    Leeks, 3 huge ones, £1
Bananas, 4 small ones, given free with the leeks!
Butternut squash, 2 large ones, £1

I was on the bus with all of this in carrier bags, plus some things from the homewares dept at TK Maxx, and my arms were nearly dropping off by the time I got home (especially as I had to walk the long way round from Peckham Road thanks to that bloke getting stabbed to death in a fight at the end of my street - lovely ) so the moneysaving downside of all of this is that I have resolved to invest in a Wally Trolley!
