I hope that other MSE members will not be put off by this thread, by this I mean if I received the same letter I would be less inclined to post about it on here after reading some of the comments.

How so? I work for one of the country's largest employers and we send out hand written envelopes every day. (printers too busy to tie up with envelopes)

Windowed envelopes are often used by companies to overcome your exact problem; much to my annoyance as it means not the whole of the envelope can get recycled and I have to go thru' all my junk mail to rip them out!!!!

I work for the 2nd largest insurance company in the UK and on a daily basis hand write envelopes because the printers are too busy churning out letters.

We also know that the named person on the letter exists because someone phoned the store. Maybe this one will always remain a unsolved mystery
