I would write back too. They chose to accept them - the fault lies with the cashier not you.
I would lie low too. They probably don't know who you are , so if you go and see them they will. Just write back and blend into the background for a while - no coupons at all for a bit.
I'm sure they willl soon forget.0 -
please dont keep having a go at me, the cashier said it was ok and kept on taking them. by the way the cashier is still there i saw him the other day.

LOL,well done you. They can't do a thing to you. They are trying to scare you.The vouchers were accepted by the cashier and the till let them go through. If you knew the cashier personally it might be a different case for him but still not you.Ignore all the moaners that say you abused it,they are only jealous. If you want to talk to tesco's thats up to you,but i'd do it over the phone and make a log of who you speak too and when etc.......©..®..(TM) NothingVentured.

Seems like the manager didn't train their staff correctly, and so they are going after you to solve their problem. Perhaps you should go and speak to someone at CAB? I feel that if the store accepted the coupons at the time of the transaction, then they have agreed to the terms.
None of my local Tescos (all Metros) accept coupons, and they have never heard of the coupon policy. I agree with others that it would be great if staff new the policy, and that it was consistent from store to store.
Good luck!I :heart2: Waitrose0 -
How did he get your address?
Was it via the Tesco Club/Credit card?
If this is the case was he allowed to gain access to your data?
Always a good starting point....'ok before I start. Can you please tell me how you gained access to my personal data?' Usually throws people as you are on the attack not the defence!
I would point out that its an instore training issue and not your responsibility to know all Tesco Policies. As he is not the store manager - its also worth saying that you intend to escalate the matter as you feel that you are being victimised for his inefficiency!
Good luck with it - let us all know how it turns out.I am NOT a Woman! - its Overland Landy (as in A Landrover that travels Overland)

I don't think you are to blame-yes we all get carried away when we see a good offer but who doesn't near xmas time? It's not like you filled a trolley and walked off without paying, you asked in full public view and the cashier accepted so whats the problem? Seems to me that the manager is trying to scare you into paying, surely if they have any sort of coupon policy then the cashier would have been aware of it- how about beating the manager to it and ringing head office explaining your situation and apologising.
Im sure tescos won't end up poor and destitute with the supposed loss they make millions in profit everyday-Just be more careful in future. hthLove can tame the wildest0 -
i would guess as you dont work for them its not your responsability to know the
rules of coupon use...its the cashiers.... i would write them a short letter back saying that as you were unaware of the policy regarding coupons, (and i assume they dont have any signs up about it, ? ) and surely its down to them training their staff properly then it wouldnt've happened in the first place...( i am guessing that manager will get a right rolliking from Head Office as its the managers responsability to ensure his/her staff are trained properly....just a short letter and dont put your phone number or you might be bombarded with calls..... and if you go there again dont use your clubcard for a while and pay cash.....i also dont think they can legally do to much....;)Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Edit - mis-read Ella's post - I do not agree.
Your couple of hundred pounds of goods is nothing in the grand scheme of that which is Tesco PLC.
Your story indicates that the SA encouraged you - sounds like a training issue.
Ignore the Dudes that are moralising over your voucher usage.

PS Don't use your clubcard next time

Quote "i am sure that you were unaware that this may be seen as a fraudulent act, and i am confident that you will want to come into the store to resolve the this issue and pay the outstanding amount for your goods."
Arn't tesco acting fraudulently by redeeming the coupon value from the manufacturer without the actual product being bought by the person presenting the coupon?Don't take life too seriously, no one gets out alive0 -
Personally I think this is a contract issue. You took your stuff to the checkout. The store (via their SA) accepted (and actually encouraged) you to pay in vouchers which they readily accepted. That they may have trouble redeeming them is not your problem. You've got consideration, offer and acceptance.
Tesco are perfectly at will to accept anything for their goods be it cash, vouchers or pieces of paper. They accepted pieces of paper. They even asked for them!
Go to your CAB or find a solicitor that does a free consultation and ask their advice.
You are in no way responsible for a Tesco SA who doesn't know what the policy is. The manager is - and I suspect that is why you've got the letter.
Also, as an aside that has already been raised, how did he get your address? I'd speak to the Information Commissioner about that, if I were you. The fine for misuse of data is much higher than the cost of your shopping!
Chin up!
