Well besides the point of me not knowing how much was in the bank. The cashier just went ahead and gave it to me. Now its her fault i have added debt. The account is a savings one, no internet access too. The only way is going to a bank. Is it not their responsiblilty to check whether i have funds?
You say that there is no other access to the account other than going into the branch therefore you must have gone into the branch to withdraw the £1400 that is supposedly missing from your account.
It does not take much of a detective to spot that either you are not telling the truth or that you had a gun in your hand when you went in to withdraw the £1800, branch savings accounts to my knowledge, cant be overdrawn.
  • Loads of replies so sorry if i cant keep up.

That day was the anniversary of my babies death and my other daughters birthday. Its a HARD day.

I do deal with a lot of money and this is why it was an oversight. I am power of attorney for my nans money and over see her at her care home. I have 2 kids that i bring up on my own and im a bit forgetful. And im not even that old to have to deal with all this. Now i have the added stress of all this to deal with aswell.

I will not sell the car. The car was on the market for a hell of a long time and i knocked him down 1k aswell. I just knew the guy needed the money before that weekend. If i tried to sell, id prob get £700 if that. Id be stupid

For your information, yer i agree, as i did when the cashier rang me, i should have asked. But not wanting to seem rude and not butt into a conversation i just didnt.
I came to this forum for help btw.

Yer i did go into the bank. The statements i said are no word of a lie. Bloody hell, i wish i hadnt bothered now.

So im either a liar or a thief.....brilliant
  • I've heard anecdotally of a savings account becoming overdrawn as a result of an internal transfer between accounts - even though as you say it should be impossible. Note I said interally not via an external payment.

    To the OP
One day YOU will make a mistake and put in the wrong account number into an online transaction and it will go to someone else. How would YOU like it if this other person subsequently says....sorry you are not getting you money back it was your mistake - tough.
I'll bet under those circumstances you would be on this forum faster than a rat down a drainpipe asking for advice on how to get you money back now/today.

Is the OP a troll? sadly I don't think so...................

The customer is not allowed to take them overdrawn, however cheques bouncing, and errors such as this can leave them with negative balances. Certainly with Santander there are no charges or interest associated with this (on the savings account); I suspect this is why it has been transferred across to the current account.
Your problem might arise that they'll set a managed down overdraft, and it'll reduce each month by whatever they decide. As in, when you contact them to make a payment arrangement, whatever you offer they will have a minimum policy (Santander is 9 months). The overdraft will reduce by whatever they tell you (irrespective if you can afford it or not). If you can't pay it back in full straight away, or meet the monthly figure they ask, you need to get a new account somewhere else entirely so they cannot simply help themselves to your money. This way you can still choose how much to send to them, regardless of how much the overdraft reduces.
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Arguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.

I am really sorry if I have offended you, certainly did not mean to, but people, me included, do not understand how you can "forget" that much money.

I am also very sorry to hear your sad news and that you were having a hard day.

However, the fact remains that you owe the bank money, there is no way around that.

This is why it was transfered to my current account. As people are saying you cant take money from a savings account if there is none there. I have given them my means form and she is ringing me tomorrow to discuss. I have her mobile number i may just ring her now as now i feel even worse than i did before!
  • Reading though the various replies.....
You say you came on to the forum for help.....but really, what help/advice can we give. The issue is simple: You owe the money back.

If you were thinking that we are going to help you find ways to avoid you paying back the money at all - then sorry but MSE is not the forum for you.
