What exactly sounds fishy?
I just cant believe the bank gave me money i didnt have!0 -
Regardless of any error made by the bank, where is your own sense of pride, decency and personal responsibility? Now its her fault i have added debt.
i feel that she has put me in debt0 -
I worked in Santander up until recently, on the counter. What would you like them to do when their systems go down and they can't check if the money is there, just not serve you at all? OK, I'm guessing the systems were working here (odd that the computer didn't prevent the cashier completing the transaction if this is the case though). My point is, though, it is down to you to ensure you know what your accounts are doing and so they're not obliged to do a thing. If you contact them, they'll probably try to arrange a payment plan, but my experience is they'll want to set this up over 9 months, perhaps 12 max so you'll be looking at £117-£156 per month.
The cashier called me about an hour after i left the bank. All she said was she took the money out and didnt even bother to look at the screen. She was too busy talking about chickens to 3 other people and certainly not fussed about me. Me, i was trying to keep the anniversary off my mind all day, trying not to get emotional, and choose to keep conversation (when i could get a word in edge ways) to a minimum.0 -
How the hell can you accidentally forget about £1,400?
It might happen if you had a high salary and variable cashflow, but if this was the case you probably wouldn't be worried about 'going into debt' for the sake of £1400. It doesn't sound like this is the case here!0 -

This is no different whatsoever to if you had walked in and asked to withdraw 1million pounds in cash, the cashier had failed to check you account balance was sufficient, and instead just handed you 1million quid cash,
then the next day bank phone you up saying they are going to now charge you interest in that 1million quid.
At the end of the day they cannot physically force you to repay any money that you cannot afford to.
So just tell them that you will repay £100 per month for the next 12months (or however much you can comfortably afford to)
Thanks very much for that!! Finally someone on my side, my side? What was it i did wrong again?? Oh yer, forget to check my balance0 -

Absolutely make a complaint about the service and the lack of attention paid that has now put you in this position, you might get some charges waived. But you'll still have to repay the money: you've had it, used it and now have a car after all.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -

So what do you plan to do ? are you going to sell the car and repay the money or are you going to pay it back monthly.. or you going to try and get out of paying full stop ???0

Sorry, I've probably sounded a bit harsh, as I do very much feel for your side of things. The cashier (and therefore, by extension, the bank) have screwed up. But you've still got the benefit from it, I'm afraid.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -

I couldn't agree more, £20 possibly but £00's, no. Are we feeding a troll?0
