have a blackberry curve, how to make the switch from my old phone

hi
ive been using a sony errickson k800i with a 02 simplicity sim in there.
Now i have a blackberry curve, which is on Orange.

could i put my 02 sim in and it would work?
or do i have to Unlock the orange blackberry?
how much would this cost?

would 02 simplicity sim work in the blackberry curve?
would i be able to use email on the blackberry?
im not sure if i have internet data plan with simplicity.

would i lose all my texts on my current phone?
or would they get transferred to blackberry once i put the sim in?

are there any other considerations or issues i need to deal with?

thankyou

    can someone help please?
  • You will need to get the phone unlocked. Unless it was bought from either Phones4u or the Carphone Warehouse. I think they sell unlocked handsets.

To use the Blackberry Services you will need the Blackberry add on, this gives you access to Blackberry Internet Services (BIS). This give you push email, Blackberry Messenger and Internet. You can use the Blackberry without these.

I think the only way to transfer texts is to put them on to the sim and then onto the phone.

i put my 02 sim in, it said enter unlock code, ill take it to a shop soon to get it unlocked.

could i do this? = take a picture on phone and email it to another email address using my wi fi home router internet connection, without black berry add on???
i dont think my 02 sim has internet data plan.....
if i got blackberry add on....what would that actually allow me to do?

You can unlock the BB yourself, for the princely cost of a pound or two. But you should also change the firmware to the network you intend to use. You can do that yourself for free after unlocking.

The old Simplicity contracts(2009) don't allow the BB Internet add-on, the new(2010) might do for £5 per month.

I preferred to keep the 2009 contract as it is better for me.

Once you have the service you have access to applications such as Windows Live Messenger, BB Messenger and the Internet in general.
  • im unsure about doing it online, i think id rather go shop.
how would i change the firmware to 02?

im not sure i would need BB internet add on.....
but could i take pics on phone and email them on phone using my home internet wi fi????? without the bb add on?

messenger, i dont use.... ive used the sony errickson without internet, and im fine with that....

but say if i do get BB addon, wouldnt i need a 02 sim which give me data usage?

would i lose data, numbers, files once i put my 02 sim in the blackberry?
  • this is my 02 plan:
300 minutes to call any standard UK mobile or standard UK landline (starting 01, 02, 03)
    Unlimited UK text messages
Unlimited O2 to O2 calls. These calls are outside your call allowance

what about picture messages? could i send them and they are included in the allowance????? or they would be addded on top of the monthly cost??

Read your T&Cs. Within my contract, four SMS equal one MMS, so they are included in my bundle.
Yours is the new Simplicity, so probably different. You may have to purchase the BB addon(£5) and a package such as The AllRounder(£6) which includes 500MB of data transfer per month, 20 free media messages per month, unlimited public WiFi via The Cloud and BT Openzone hotspots, and free mobile tethering.
So you'll end up paying around £21 per month for all. Just my opinion, so check.
  • but could i take pics on phone and email them on phone using my home internet wi fi????? without the bb add on?

i dont want to pay more than i am currently (£15).

No, AFAIK you need BIS for that. For what are you paying £15? I thought the Simplicity 300 tariff was £10.
  • AFAIK? what does that mean?

i can use internet on the blackberry at my home using the home router, no? (without any addon)

if not, it would be a one off cost? or monthly ongoing?
