I can see you're not a true (and serious) red cabbage lover!

I'd never, ever give away an unopened jar of red cabbage.

Unless, of couse, it was a real medical emergency (and on second thoughts) I reckon Rain_is_Insane's situation just might have been). ;)

As long as the jar is opened, I don't care where it came from :D

My mum always used to tip jars upside down and bash the lid side on the floor. No idea why it works, but it usually does.

Mum and grandma are the total source of my household problem solving....non of the stuff works though, hence why I had to ask on here :D

My grandma would still use VIM if she had the chance....and she cried all day when she found out Linco Beer Shampoo was being discontinued....see why I come here??????

    lol

I always seem to need to stab the lid of my pickled cabbage to release the vacuum before I can open it. You need to finish it quickly afterwards though as it doesn't last with the hole in it!

My son (who has hands like shovels and can usually open anything) tried, his girlfriend tried, the builder over the road tried, the kleeneze man tried (then proceeded to try and flog me a jar opener which would have been fantastic if he had one in his !!!!! pocket at the time)

This had me in stitches - I wonder if the Kleeneze agent now carries a jar opener around in pocket? :rotfl:

Stanley knife through the lid...worked a treat!!!!

Unfortunately the lid came off with such a POP, I dropped the whole thing on the floor of the garage and i now need a new jar of pickled cabbage...LOL

Thank you for all the ideas though :)

This thread has made my day :rotfl:

Your garage must have looked like a crime scene!!

You could use a knife or hammer a nail through the lid to release the vacuum, carefully though.

This is the correct thing to do. Did it last week with a similar robust jar top.
