OK bread is out of the oven - a resounding success!!!! Brilliant! Just like the Kingsmill 50/50. A pale, light loaf with a good soft crumb and great rise. Makes fabulous toast - will tell you about sandwiches in the morning.
My recipe - for a 2lb loaf tin
1 cup/ 112g bread four
1 cup/ 112 g chapatti flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp yeast
1 tsp veg oil
Into the breadmaker - run it through on dough setting. Knock back and place in 2lb loaf tin. Leave to double in size then bake at 175 for 30 minutes.
I feel toast and cheese coming on for supper.

This is the MG of old........... I just got a flashback of the first post I ever read of yours which was a recipe for spiced fruit loaf I think. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Great! I'm not coeliac, though I have 2 grandsons who are, but cutting bread out/seriously down solves some tummy problems which have niggled me. Chapatti flour has (I am told) less gluten than standard flour.
Thanks MG for doing my research for me.:cool:But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
Thanks MG for the bread recipe - Got two big bags of chappati flour for £1 each at M's last week, so will be trying out your recipe tomorrow. Can I just check what your cup measurement is, a teacup? I also got a big bag of cornflour, but I have no idea how to use it!Sealed pot Challenge 2011 member No 1241 - Final total £154.21

Triciaxx I find spelt flour kinder on my stomach than regular flour. I've eaten regular bread the last few days out of ease/laziness and can tell.
I made a new soup tonight which was part leftovers, part store cupboard, part veg patch and very nice. Blackberries all eaten/frozen so I need to see about picking some more in the next couple of days. I'm having my friends girls all day on Thursday so if it is dry maybe 4 more little hands could help (need to make sure they are not dressed in white tops!).
DS3 to a friend's tomorrow as I had their boy last week so a few hours peace. I intend to visit the big M&S nearby and restock my underwear. Also hope to do the school shoe shop tomorrow.
I've made my first post on the other side but need more time to read some of the older stuff on there. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Yesterdays post:
Up early this morning as it's back to school day - or start at school day in the case of DS1.
So 6 o'clock this morning saw me with my head under the kitchen sink - pulling out, throwing out cleaning out and replacing.
Now I know I don't use many cleaning products - but even still it was a ten minute job.
So your challenge the next time you are in the kitchen waiting or the kettle to boil - is to sort out that manky cupboard under the sink - get rid of the dribbles on the bottles, the rings on the shelves and the scrunched up clothes.
TTFN - Off to wake up the littlies
Chapatti flour is SLIGHTLY better - but spelt is the way to go. Its a heavier grain and takes a bit of practice to get a light loaf - but saying that I have a great recipe that I used to make for Children's House (two kids with wheat allergies so the bread was made using spelt) I will go and look it up.
Today's challenge is a quickie - so get yourself over there and unburden yourself

ETA - I've edited my recipe with weights for you - I bake bread using cups (from the poundshop) as I find it quicker to scoop and run rather than faffing with scales, Sorry!FINALLY AND OFFICIALLY DEBT FREESmall Emergency Fund £500 / £500
