Bitsy_Beans wrote: »One woman with her several kids outside a shop being interviewed tells an older man to jog on in front her 10 year old son because he said there was no excuse for the current behaviour. What message does that send to her son? That you don't respect other people, that you shouldn't exercise some personal boundaries or etiquette?
I think we saw the results of how she is bringing up her son - in his rude and disrespectful attitude towards the man (who was holding a drill and was obviously WORKING to repair damage caused in the riots.)
Even DS1 was horrified at his "shut up an p**s off" attitude towards the gentleman (and gentleman he was because he didn't clip him one - this from someone who has never hit her kids BTW!!!)
If DS1 EVER spoke to an adult with such rudeness I would be so ashamed and mortified - never mind allowing him to do it on National Television. I would absolutely KNOW I had failed as a parent.
Then what do I know???? I am a single Mum and therefore part of the "broken and sick" Britain (I'm Kidding - I hope you get that)
But I AM personally responsible for raising my kids - and they have both got that there can be no rights without responsibilities.
DS1 met his new Head in a cafe this summer and got into a political conversation - she was stumped when he revealed that although we "live" in a democracy - in his house that's not the case. When he contributes equally to the home he gets a full vote, until then he is a kid and Mum is in charge................................... :T:T That's right son!!! That's right :rotfl:
But actually it is - I'm the parent, he is just a child - it is NOT a partnership of "Equals".
Call Social Services now - my children are not being raised with the "entitlement mentality" that I see when I go into schools ....... actually strike that, there may be less need for social services if all our kids were raised like that.
Her endeth my rant - but I feel better for it

I agree that each parent should be responsible for the upbringing of their children. single parent or not it doesn't matter. children are not just a way of getting money off the state. you have a responsibility to raise then to be decent adults. where I work we are having trouble with a young lad who lives down the street. he caused damage to the property so we had CCTV installed. he did it again and we caught him on camera. the police went to his house and his mother was apperently "horrified" that her son could have done it. fair enough. I would be horrified too if I was in her situation. However, 2 ASBO's and countless warnings later she is still "horrified" whenever the police call to arrest her son. Why didn't she teach him some respect the first time?? I now have no sympathy for her as she has made no effort to correct her child's behaviour. No child of mine would EVER get away with something like that.Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000

Cringed when I saw the woman from Salford too - and how that man didn't plant her one I don't know. Trouble is that is why half of the rioters probably act the way they do - big discussion with dd this morning about how we had nothing to do as kids either but we didn't smash up shops as a result (did sound like my daily mail reading parents:o)
Still thinking about the whole money raising issue but no answers to the lack of time yet.....but did manage to do couch to 5k week 2 first run today while thinking and have not died yet so am quite proud of myself.
Am well up for the 7 bags challenge though - our garage alone probably houses 77 bags (although 76 are from the dancing school waiting for us to car boot on their behalf if the sun ever shines on a morning when dh is not on early shift). Have just added bin bags to the shopping list!Mortgage £119,533 going down slowly

I live in the city of Salford (in the extended sense of the term - I don't live near that rabble) so think how I feel when I see them!
It gives the good people round here a bad name, but unfortunately there are enough of them who live near where all the riots are: "I deserve this", "there are no jobs" (followed closely by "I don't want that job"), and any other number of self-serving statements of pity and shirking personal responsibility.
However, there are some fab people, too.
Anyway, enough of that: I've got to pretty myself up to get a job. Interview suit at the ready!0 -
I'd forgotten about your interview Sunflower - you go get it love!!!!!
To give you an idea of what the weather is doing today .................. for today's lunch I have made beef and barley soup!!!!! You'd think it was November:rotfl:
2 carrots
1/6 pack LIDL stew beef (bought when at £1.19)
1/2 onion
2 celery stalks
1/4 cup barley
6 minutes in the pressure cooker then lots of pepper and some salt to season.
6 bowls of soup - well four cost I just put two into my flask to take out with me. But at 7.5p per bowl its a keeper and cheaper than buying something when we are out and about.

Love the 7 bags challenge! *also adds bin bags to shopping list* I won't be actively doing it as the midwife says my blood pressure is too high so I'm to stay put, but I can sit on my beanbag and direct DH!
On a completely seperate issue, midwife thinks we'll be meeting Bob sooner rather than later. Only 31 weeks at the mo so hopefully not too soon, but his head is already engaged! Could do with some "baby please stay put until September" vibes if thats not too cheeky to ask!
ETA go get 'em vibes for SunFlower!0 -
Bob - you need to stay where you are love - the Matrix Aunties haven't finished knitting yet:rotfl:
Another few weeks Winnie - all will be fine - just sit and direct to your hearts content.
Off to take short peeps to Grans - (she is taking them to lunch) whilst I have a manic hour whizzing around to get the last bits for DS1 going to school next Tuesday.

Cheers guys - it's just registering with agencies, not really interviews, but I'm also meeting VIP lady for lunch, so we shall see where that goes.
Now I'm REALLY running late, so see you later! x0 -

Sounds lovely - is November here too as we have just done menu plan and today's lunch is soup too! But yours sounds nicer:p Any ideas how I could do it without a pressure cooker (my mum exploded one when I was a child and I fear them to this day)Mortgage £119,533 going down slowly
