Evening all, 2 days away and oodles of pages to catch up on. Will try later in the week ........too tired tonight.
Hope that you are all safe. Just noticed a question re rioting, and a couple of answers. Not read much so might put the cat among the pidgeons but I do believe that there is more to all of this than "because they can", although I do believe that some of this comes into play. However.............. why is it ok to come down on young (probably unemployed and with little/no education and from poor backgrounds - ok not always) people for being "greedy" and looting when Bankers have not been treated with the same disdain for being greedy and ruining the economy of the world? After all, it was greed on their part that has led to the whole mess we are in right now. What have we become as a society if people believe that materialism is so much more important than happiness (or rather believe that"having" brings happiness)
I am sorry if any of you are offended by this but I do believe it is far too easy and far to Mail readers orientated to say that these people are scum. As far as I am concerned, bankers, politicians and businessmen who have an equal propensity to greed as poor people are just as much scum as poor, uneducated, young people. Is it not indicitave of the problem when you hear that a street in London had all of its shops looted except Waterstones who sell books. ...........?Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -

We are staying on a CL site which is restricted to only 5 caravans. I like that as it means I am not constantly watching the kids wandering off into the distance on a large caravan park. Plus I find it quieter and you don't tend to be pitched on top of one another.
We stay on CLs as well. It's not the children we're trying to avoid but the late night folk. We spent 3 weeks between Norwich and Cromer and are now a week into 2 weeks near Lavenham. It's a great way to get around and very MSE.
I'm trying to catch up but little success so far. We went to Sutton Hoo today - another thing off my bucket list - and then met a friend for a cuppa afterwards.
Vibes and hugs being sent to all who need them. But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
But Cheri... I'm pretty sure the bankers and politicians also do it 'because they can'. They just subject us to more eloquent (occasionally) bullish*t when they get caught. And I don't think books are a priority for most of them either, which may also be indicative of how morality is developed... Through education and intellectual curiosity.
I'm worried now FW ... I appear to be fairly solvent...maybe OH only wants me for my money
I know I have saved a lot by working from home... I've hardly bought any clothes in the last 12 months and don't have to drive 500 miles a week which cuts a LOT of cost in terms of fuel.0 -
The money things all academic for me ladies. I'm content to rent for ever if need be, cant live the life I want AND save a huge deposit on my tod as well and thats just how it is.
On another note, 1 more day til I stop work for hols!!!!'The road to a friends house is never long'0 -
Looking at who have been charged already and the ages involved it is a fair mix of young and older, educated and non-educated, employed (but in at least one case not for much longer) and unemployed. There are deprivation and jobless/worthless issues but there is also opportunism and greed which unfortunately are the main drivers in lots of lives -how many people would hand in £10 they find, how many check the pavement after a slip to see if there is a claim, how many falsify insurance claims?
The image of the looter who had a huge bag of tesco value basmati rice sticks in my mind - if you are looting and your first thought is rice then you may well need it.
Am with MG on this one - if either of mine got involved they would be taking the stuff back pronto with a letter of apology, a broom to sweep up, money to pay for the windows and grounded for life. Dd did 'lift' a fruit cake and put it in her pocket when she was 4 and we went back to the shop and she had to give it back and say sorry- the shopkeeper was very surprised we had even bothered.Mortgage £119,533 going down slowly

Darn. I always imagined le mentor to be un boy. So that makes him either un boy homosexuel or une girl. I had every intention of cracking out my best flirty French with le boy mentor, but I might be stymmied here. I'd imagine that there must be a lot of "evidence" floating around.
There are lots of places it can be submitted. I can't remember offhand, but it's all about the Twitter for links for things like this. *Inserts cute little blue bird*Memory_Girl wrote: »DS1 admitted to the community bobby today that if I ever caught him looting he would be on a plane to "Officers Training" in Botswana before he would ever get into the house again
I'm way over the age of majority and if my mum ever caught me involved in anything like that - even if I lived in a different city - she would be in a car and have me pinned up against a wall before I could blink. Officer training and letters of apology would have nothing on her.
If more parents made it clear that they would not accept this type of behaviour and that they would do something drastic about it, there would be less of it about. I wonder what will happen in houses where kids come home with new trainers, iPhones, plasma TVs etc? 'Oh look mum, Santa came early this year and was EXTRA generous', I don't think...how many of them will hand in the goods and do something about it?0 -
Sunflower - he's a boy - and so is his boyfriend ....................... but they are both simply the worlds best flirts - so feel free to crack out your french.
Teeny tiny challenge posted on the other side - a 15 minute one I promise.
Off to look out my plans for an Ark - and then pop on the coffee.
Back soon to firm up my plans for MFi3 - I think we should just g ahead and max out funds and use it do whatever might be necessary.

MG - Are you still making and selling Aprons etc? Are you getting near your desired totals? It was such a fantastic idea (if only I had the talent to do it, and the ideas!) so I am hoping it is still rumbling along for you and gathering the required momentum to give you the result you wanted.OD [STRIKE] £2600 [/STRIKE] £0 :j Loan [STRIKE]£9500.00[/STRIKE] £0 :j Car [STRIKE]£3150[/STRIKE] £0 :j Moving Costs [STRIKE]£1300[/STRIKE] £0 :j Savings £1150 :j

I sold 22 aprons in the end - one order was for 12 as a "party Bag" for a little girls party. Her mum put a BERO book and wooden spoon in a bag with an apron for all the party-goers. Brilliant idea.

I'm with Thrifty on prioritising paying off the mortgage. It saves a huge amount of interest. I paid off my mortgage at an accelerated rate but took in a lodger for buffer income and saved an amount which was enough to tide me over 3 months' unemployment if needed. On top of that I had been in the same job for several years and would have had the statutory minimum payout from that as well. That was enough to stop me getting the financial jimjams in the wee small hours of sleepless nights!
Post 18 on the MFW Roll of Honour thread tells how I did it. Sorry tried a linky and it didn't work!
Ever since then I've been using the equivalent monthly money for medical treatment, not available on the NHS as it's considered experimental, but because it's giving me a future it's an excellent investment :rotfl::rotfl:
I think it's good to have a financial strategy but everyone's situations are different. People with dependents who need extra tlc, and people coping with chronic health conditions are not quite as well placed as e.g. a double income couple in professional jobs, to raise significant amounts of extra money.
Nevertheless, if you want to be inspired by what can be achieved by a dedicated MFW, I highly recommend the inspirational Benbenandme. Like Hypno was when she was paying down her debts, she is just brilliant at making and squirreling away small amounts of money which add up wonderfully over time.
In fact I vote Hypno for PM and Benben for Chancellor! :j:jIf you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.
