Following the discusion of poverty with interest but...All measures necessarily focus on the 'material' aspects of poverty - how much and what one has - but neglect the mentality that is necessarily involved in all that (how much and what you want). Many sages, including great ones, lived well below the poverty line materially but were really wealthy people (sorry folks, but some of you mya remember I wrote several post about this on my blog).

So, some of us may be in a spot of trouble, we may be broke but poor we are not! I thought we sorted this one out sometime ago (go back to the precious tread for reference; or even the one before that). And it doesn't matter what this incompetent group of people who are in government do - poor we will never be.

(may sound as a revolutionary but am actiually in a rather contemplative mood)

Maryb, you said so eloquently what I was attempting to articulate. Poverty comes in all forms. For me poverty is being denied an education. Most people can survive lack of money and often find ways to deal with it. Education is what helps to lift people from poverty. It is the children with parents described by Bitsy that I feel sorry for. However I also feel sorry for those parents because it is obvious to me that they are lacking in education. The way to turn them around is to find the one thing that will hook them into education and I doubt very much that harvest festival is going to do it for them somehow. Although I have no clue what would.

    Yes very interesting conversation today.

I have to say many of these mums have been quite antagonistic towards the nursery teachers last year (where I had the pleasure of their company when dropping off one mindee). These poor teachers were doing their very best to instill in some valuable education and were met with resistance. Sadly much of it appeared to be ignorance and quite frankly a chip on their shoulder so not really sure anything would engage with these mothers. As far as the harvest festival goes though if you have no interest in what your child is doing then please don't bother to attend, thereby leaving a seat for one of the many parents who were bothered but who had to stand at the back and leave the rest of us to enjoy our kids endeavours in peace.

Greenbee........... I am shocked that you only just joined quidco. Are you on Topcashback? I recently fell out with quidco as the third payment in a row has been declined. TCB on the other hand pays out very quickly and there is no membership fee.

Too lazy... And I mostly spend money locally. It just hasn't been a priority really :o anyway, it's done now. Hopefully I'll remember to use it in future.

Today I have put my new winter tyres in the shed, collected my dry-cleaning and got them to locate the belt for my trousers that vanished either last time or the time before (I didn't say that ) and they found it straight away. Took a new work dress bck to Jaeger as the hem had come down so that's being fixed for free with lots of apologies. Also picked up a few bits I needed in the Laura Ashley sale, health food shop and local independent dept store. Paid the gardener, sorted out some more expenses so they are up to date and printed and added to the vast oile that needs to go into the office... And did some work :D although there is plenty more where that came from.

Side effects tht I thought had settled down have returned. No idea why they're here now, but I'm hoping they go soon as I fly to Dublin on Sunday and I won't be back till late on Wednesday.

Suppose I should go to bed now as I have an early sports massage appointment :o

DS2 is up bright and early - he is excited as Gran is taking him off to see "Numberjacks" and then off to lunch with her best friend at the Chinese Buffet.

So he is showered and dressed - chocolate cords, green, cream and brown stripy shirt, aran jersey and socks all handmade. Only pants, socks and shoes were bought. He looks lovely, not like my wee baby boy - but a lovely young lad growing up to be a real boy.

Just watched from the window a Mum go past with her wee lad - screaming and pulling at him. He looks abut the same age as DS2 - but he has got spiky hair, logo'd t-shirt and designer trainers. That is the norm around here - no patience and throw money at the kids instead.

Mums best friend will be happy though - she loves it when the boys have lunch with her. Mum says she swells with pride as the waiters (Restaurant is run by family friends) make a fuss of the boys and comment on how well behaved they are. She loves it when the boys are turned out neat and tidy too - well I think if you are invited out to lunch you should make a bit of an effort.

So will today be a NSD - nope I have decided to go and get my hair trimmed and want to stock up on Rice Cakes from Home Bargains, but having looked at my bank balances, if I keep it to about ten pounds or so I should be able to pay £20 off the Big Horse Debt later - Wooohooo!!!

    TTFN - kettle is boiled

MG: Your DS sounds like he looks gorgeous. Hope he has a lovely day. Am very interested in your sofa project as I am doing the cushions for some wicker furniture for my BIL and they seem to be a mamouth job- 2 done and 4 to go. I am pleased so far but it's a slow job.

Very interesting discussion yesterday about poverty. I live in one of 15 HA houses in a village. I see younger Mums just throwing money at their off spring, having daily deliveries by courier, allowing their kids to rule the house and few of them work. It never ceases to amaze me and I agree it all comes down to education. It's not about having a degree but basic education about life and how your choices affect you and yours.
I'll get off my soap box now. (Can you tell this is from a trained youthworker)
    Debt at start of DMP 1/6/09: £2942 - £1942
    Buffer Zone 1; £84 -

Perhaps we can get Martin to lobby the Government to make the Matrix thread a permament part of the curriculum :D Might teach a few valuable lessons eh? ;)

Happy Birthday to Firewalker, have a lovely day :)

Happy Birthday Firewalker - hope you have a lovely day:beer:

Morning Matrix - didnt do much yesterday as felt a bit rubbish so had a sofa day. Did cook up a lovely sausage casserole in my new Pot - read somewhere on MSE that the smallest version which is what I have can only cook one meal for one person, however, I have managed to cook up enough for 2 meals, in fact it has gone back on today with the addition of some handfuls of pasta (I don't mind eating sausage casserole 2 days on the trot:D).

Today is another day of applications - thanks to Short Bird for the tip off about an Event Manager post (albeit in Atherstone which is miles away)..had better dust off my wedding planning diploma:D Anyway, I looked them up and rang them and CV is winging its way across to them.

Might be listing my old DVDs on Music Magpie - I figure that any money I get would be useful at the mo even though they offered me 92p for some of them when I enquired before...I just haven't had time to do a carboot.

My shed is still full of wood (old wooden bed slats) that will be free to a good home (dropping hints here to folks that live close to me that have wood burning stoves/coal fires). The wood is quite dry as I made sure that when I moved into my flat that I put a piece of carpet down in the shed so the floor is not damp.
