Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 1st AugustThis is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Hubby's been dropped at the station with his packup, getting him home tonight could be a challange as the road I use is closed, I'll have to see how close I can get.
Plans for today include a trip to Tesco, ironing & some general housework.
RR, thanks for the info & offer.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

    Morning all

    Lovely day here again.

ESMF hope your DS is ok, what a shock.

Up early to walk the dog, he really does suffer in the heat bless him. Other than that will pop to the gym later.

Plan today to do a pile of shredding and tidy up the spare room. I try to keep it tidy but it still tends to turn into a tip where I dump things. Despite trying to keep on top of my paperwork, I still end up with loads of the stuff. Might go to the beach for a couple of hours as well.

Tea tonight is something from the menu plan, makes life so much easier, think I might have to do it again :D.

    Have a good day all

    Morning my lovelies :D

So in order to get DS off to sleep earlier we have decided to revert to sitting in his room with him. Result! He was asleep by 8.40pm. However he was then awake by 6am :( So it would appear we can't win <sigh> Am destined to feel tired all the time clearly.

Anyway enough of my moaning :o Plans for today are to take a couple of the kids to the Butterfly farm. DS won't go as he didn't enjoy it much before. I've also got to pop to Sainbugs and do the weekly shop with my two in tow  wish me luck or better still pop a bottle of valium in the post :rotfl: Didn't get my ebaying done so will have to sort that out later in the week. Cut out another high viz vest so need to start stitching that together although the bias tape I ordered still hasn't come.

Tuna and pepper fishcakes for tea.

Hester - good luck making it home with H

esmf - your poor son xxx Hope it goes OK today xx
Hugs and spoons all round. Have a great day OS or not.

    Lovely day here today.

Had DD's hen night on Staurday. Had the hangover from hell yesterday!:rotfl: I'd forgotten how bad my MS gets if I get drunk:(, and OH was not sympathetic! Still, it won't happen again, and we had a great time. Had my "MOB" Sash, and with the "MOG" had fun!

Wedding stuff all done now. Two weeks on Saturday. It's gone really quickly. After Xmas it seems to have rushed by. Still got three pounds weight to lose then I've lost two stone :T I feel so much better too. Gone from 12stone 5lb to 10 Stone 8lb at the moment. Back in my size 12 clothes again too. In contrast DD seems to be getting fatter! Hope the dress still fits!

Hester Our road was closed recently, it was a nightmare, hope your experience is better!

Hope you all have a good day!

    Morning everyone

Overcast here this morning, hopefully the sun will get out later. DH up and off to work but not at stupid early o'clock so he brought me a cuppa in bed to start the day.

Have put a line of washing out. Will be dropping the boys to MIL's shortly won't have to collect them until Wednesday when I finish work at lunchtime, so a couple of easy nights. Had roast loin of pork yesterday, was one of the nicest roasts we've had for a long time, needless to say there's no leftovers! Have menu planned for smoked sausage pasta tonight, haven't had this for a while and it's one of my favourites, yummy!

Am wondering what kind of day we'll have as it's 1st of the month, will be reasonably busy because of this with the cash desk but not sure about the information side of things, some days it's horrendous other days it's quiet, will have to wait and see.

Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Esmf - hope you get on ok today. The park wont apologise as that might be seen as accepting liability and they might be sued:mad::mad::mad:
BB - Here is my take on Diam Bar Cheesecake...
    Base
Half a large packet of chocolate digestives
    5 tablespoons (75g) butter
    2 tablespoons caster sugar
    Topping
    8oz phili
    3/4 cup double cream
6oz white chocolate (i use milky bar)
    8 small diam bars
Base - whizz biscuits in processor. Melt butter and brush inside of flan tin. Add sugar and biscuits to melted butter and press down in tin. Flash bake for 5 mins at 160 for 5 mins or less as base burns very easily
    Cool base
Topping - Melt white chocolate with half the cream. Leave to cool. Mix remaining cream, choc cream mixture and cream cheese. Whizz diam bars in the processor and fold half into the mixture. Pour on top of base. Smother with remaining Diam bar crumbs and refrigerate to set.

    Enjoy xxx

I will come back later and catch up as I have my appointment this morning at JR so need to go and get ready x

MIA all weekend because we made the most of the lovely weather and went down to Norfolk for a couple of days - purely on impulse, it didn't cost a lot because we stayed at DSis's, it was nice to have a break, because we haven't booked a holiday this year, we need to replace some of our draughty old windows before winter sets in.
I will catch up with the weekend's posts later.

Loads of washing to do today smiley-chores011.gifand I want to get it on the line to dry. I also have the boiler engineer coming as well. If he comes this morning I will be pleased because it is FIL's 83rd birthday today so we will go and see him with his pressie later.
DH and DS have gone to work so I have a free morning to get some bits done without them under foot.
I need DH to smiley-chores005.gif this evening, I can't believe how many weeds have popped up over the weekend so DS has a bit of hoeing to do later.

    Well I am off for a smiley-chores036.gifand smiley-chores014.gif
    Have good days all x

  • Good morning!

Just popped in to say hello before I go off to work. Hope everyones day goes swimmingly especially esmf.

Made an agreement this morning with husband that we should not buy entertainment (cinema etc) with the joint account but only from our personal accounts. I feel better about that because it was making accountability difficult. I need to get some cash out today but only spend what I need to. We are having the talk of redundancies at the mo at work and lots of people are leaving "voluntarily" in dribs and drabs. It is really sad and I am going to miss some people loads. So I need some cash to put towards collections for gifts etc. It will come out of my mad money so thats ok.

So going to get some cash out and convince myself that that does not mean I am temporarily rich and go on a spending spree. Then off to work.

    Have a great day

Just waved DS off for his week at Walsingham - very excited for this time in the morning. Looking forward to a lovely quiet week. Some clearing out of cupboards and long put-off jobs in mind this week but today I'm going to do - not a sausage - hoorah!

Hope all have a good day.

    Good morning,

I was overcome by the tidiness bug yesterday and sorted out the utility room. It was piled high with junk and the window was disappearing. It is now very tidy and the window is back in view. My cook books are on one shelf, and I have used two shelves as my store cupboard, instead of bits and pieces being shoved in kitchen cupboards wherever there was room. I have given some of the things I didn't need to my friend as I know she will use them - Ace bleach being one bottle. I bought it to try and get the elf's school polo shirts clean and paint free. Napisan works much better.

In the afternoon, we made cakes, and inspired by HH I showed the elf how to make rhubarb and ginger jam as some of the rhubarb was ready. While I was showing him what was in the pan, the cat fell in the washing up water from the cake making. She then left home for 30 minutes because we laughed so much :rotfl:

I have the dentist this morning, which happily doesn't bother me, even though I know I need a filling. After that I have promised the little person that we will have lunch at the place of the red and yellow clown, even though I hate eating there. He has a plain cheeseburger. I then have to remove the burger and add sauce, so he basically has a warm cheese and ketchup bun :rotfl:

    Esmf hope ds is alright.
JackieO take it easy, you don't want to be poorly for your jolly hols.

    Take care all of you
