I agree, why doesn't your mom trust you at 17 to be babysitting when you are doing a course in childcare?
I started babysitting for neighbours when I was around 13, I had lots of work and never had any problems/crisis - one of them I used to stay over-night quite often so the single mom could stay at her friends and not have to come home drunk/hungover to be woken at 5am by her daughter that wanted to sit and watch videos....I had that joy instead :rotfl:
Admittedly that was before people considered it improper to do that (this was 20 years ago) but I was very grown up and people trusted me, I had younger siblings so had lots of hands on experience of little children, and this was even before mobile phones, so there's no way I could have got hold of parents even if I'd wanted to!
Not once did anything bad happen, I'd sit and watch a movie with the kids, get them into bed, and then settle down on the sofa with a book or a magazine or just sit and watch telly...not a lot could go wrong really! But then I would NEVER EVER have had friends/boyfriend round that would have distracted me from my 'duties', is that what your mom doesn't trust you about??I believe that I have the strength to make my dreams come true:T September Challenge £5 per day - £0/£150 :T0 -

What other people? Perhaps you could suggest that she comes with you to the first appointment?
As others have said, if you're going to study childcare then getting babysitting experience makes a lot of sense.0 -
