Its C R B, not CBR. Criminal Records Bureau, not criminal bureau records!

    Sorry that's been annoying me.
  • well i'm sorry im not perfect :/
Im paying so much for it because that is the price.
All the prices and stuff i have i said is what the college has given me.

There was a variety of information and ideas suggested, not just mine.

Not everybody knows the amount of money their parents receive to support their children in education or that tuition fees are free when under the age of 19 or that you cannot get a CRB for yourself.

    All good stuff.

I didn't say there weren't any useful suggestions. I was commenting on what you had said.

Are you applying for the bursary as suggested on your previous thread?
Can you put a notice up in your church offering to do gardening, carwashing, housework, dogwalking etc... for a fee? I've always found that the churches I have attended are supportive when it comes to these kinds of things.

Why are you paying so much for a CRB check? Can you speak to the college to see if they'll waive the processing charge? (£50 is not 'half price'). An enhanced CRB check costs £44, a standard is £26 - http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Employment/Startinganewjob/DG_195811

Is your church organising a standard or an enhance check? - If it's enhanced the college may be more willing to accept it.

The charges for a CRB vary as the umbrella body can charge for their work, it does vary. This does seem expensive for a college, my son and daughter have needed them for uni and got them free of charge. I assume the uni had a fund to pay the full cost.

No organisation should accept an enchanced CRB as sometimes they come with additional information which they would not know from the disclosure. We refer to this as a "brown envelope" but an auditor from CRB told me it actually comes in a white envelope. I have never had one come back with additional information but I was told it does happen.

I'm sorry you didn't like the information I gave the OP; I thought it was useful and something she might not have known. I also gave her lots of other suggestions but I've yet to see any of yours.
  • look - i appreciate all the information and stuff, but it stuff i already know and what i have been told by 2 colleges is different to what you guys are saying. I have picked up on the points already said about CRB's and the costs of things but it seems like the college only gets funding for the teachers and placements not for equipment.

I'm sorry you didn't like the information I gave the OP; I thought it was useful and something she might not have known. I also gave her lots of other suggestions but I've yet to see any of yours.

You made a comment about the time and trouble you had taken to give the OP advice and I don't think you had given any useful advice, just been a bit snippy about how her parents should spend their benefits which clearly the OP has no control of. It might be nice if just occasionally you adopted a pleasant tone.

As for suggestions, if the OP can't get a job and parents won't help I think the most useful suggestions were carboot sales or selling some baking at the back of her church. The cake sale at church is usually a good way of making some cash but as it had already been suggested I didn't post it again as it wasn't adding anything. I know colleges are struggling for cash, I was at an employers meeting at our local college two weeks ago so heard all about it, so I don't think there is going to be much help there but it might be worth a try.

To the OP: Good luck and don't give up, I am sure you will get there in the end. Go and ask at church and college, get boyfriends help with carboot and let us know how you get on.

ETA: Is it worth asking college if they will let you pay over a number of months? When you go on placements you might find it easier to get work or babysitting and if they spread it over the year it would be a relatively small amount.
