Have you study childcare before?
I think estimating what you need before starting the course and getting proper information is going a little far head of yourself, you should look in to all available funding you should be entitled to if your from a low income family i.e low wage jobs/benefits you should be entitled to different funding this will cover books, CRB, travels and other equipment, I know this is not the type of info you want to know but it maybe your only alternative, if you can't find the funds by the end of the summer
Most placements don't start straight away and most nurseries don't expect people to have to wear specialized work clothes, again assignments are normally spaced out and most college libraries should be equipped with material related to you course, maybe have a talk with the college or a tutor on the course and see if they can advise you.
good luck with it.
The only other things I can suggest is try joining some childcare agencies and see if they can get you some temp work if you get your CRB sorted that is.Goals...to have half of my debt cleared by 2011 and be debt free by 2012.0 -
I got my college paper work through the post.
They sent out a CBR form. They haven't said anything about the college fees on
the college letter though. It did on my other college letter for higher art.
also, a man from my local argos store phoned me up to say i might have a chance in getting a weekend job
if i turn up this tuesday£11.01/ £1000 -
thats good about the argos job! good luck!
How about using some of the websites people on here use? like surveys, reviews, cashback sites which have free offers etc. Some pay in cash some pay in vouchers like amazon which could be good for buying books perhaps? It's slow but if you're not doing anything else...?! PM me if you want any reccomendations!!0 -
You made a comment about the time and trouble you had taken to give the OP advice and I don't think you had given any useful advice, just been a bit snippy about how her parents should spend their benefits which clearly the OP has no control of. It might be nice if just occasionally you adopted a pleasant tone.
.
You might notice that I suggested very early on that babysitting was the most viable option for someone who's 17 and wants to study childcare and I still can't see any better option for her.

I don't recall any hugs? Didn't you tell her she didn't need CRB or first aid when lots of parents do want that. The CRB is pointless for babysitter as I have said before it won't necessarily show all information as certain things will come to the person who applied for the CRB and not show on the copy the individual gets but parents still feel it means their child is safe. You also told her she should get it paid by her parents and I will say it one more time, it isn't her fault if her parents won't or can't afford it.
I don't find your posts very polite, usually quite the opposite. I have also noticed I am not alone.
No hugs, I save them for my grandchildren.Sell £1500

i think the confusion is for various reasons
babysitting was suggested but that comes with its own problems as i cannot keep up with the law on crbs for people who take money for babysitting children. it may be required but its also not possible for her to apply for this on her own. so she could baby sit, but wont have a crb, she needs to check out whether this is legal and then if parents will accept her on a reference from her church if it is legal to do this
it was useful to suggest the OP speak to the financial support at college, they will be there during the summer break and she needs to make contact with them straight away. others are right to point out that education is free until she is 18 and she may be mis reading or mis understanding the 'fees'. if its just the cost of the crb (which the college can charge what it likes for) and the t shirt, then this is easier to obtain than the rest of the stuff.
OP needs to check out the library (again open during the holidays) which will probably have reading lists for different courses, to check whether the books that she needs are in their library.
books can also be found second hand on amazon rather than buying new
however, there are plenty of things she could do, dog walking, dog sitting, espcially now when people are on holiday, pet feeding/sitting.
things like cake baking come with issues like hygiene checks, i thought that you were not allowed to sell food without having had your house inspected or whatever, but this may be wrong
it is quite right that her parents spend their income on what they feel suits their family best, but it would appear that OP is getting very little practical, financial and emotional support from them and it might be worth her while finding out what her parents can do for her, even if its filling in forms, phoning college, going to appointments with her, or getting other extended family to help in some way.
i understand that this may not be possible, maybe the parents have mental health/special needs or whatever and are simply not able to help.
but really OPs first port of call is the college to find out the situation as several have pointed out that it doesnt seem correct that she is paying 'fees' at her age
by the way she is 17 as she said in her first post on the other thread, i dont know why people were insisting that they read her post correctly and that she is 16!0 -
