Massive orange phone bill

It's been proven many times that relying on what Orange CS say regarding roaming is the worst mistake you can make. Everything they say has to be double-checked by finding the information published on the website.
In this world, you can either rely on other people to come to your aid and then winge when they don't, or take personal responsibility knowing that, in the end, you are the one who suffers if you don't.
Experience has taught me that I research things out, try to eliminate as much of the potential that I can - not relying on other sources to do what they say they will, and keep copies of anything that could be relevant.
Now if I could remember where I put the copies........................;)0 -
lamalamb.
Currently fighting (trying) to fight a £2097.00 bill from orange for my 1 week hol to Turkey.
Had phone service suspended which i expected and I am grovelling to orange based on my 13 years of custom which appears to be my only valid arguement... trust me I have tried to cover all angles!!! and I am continuing to get standard responses fom Orange that above all else I am liable.
Look at how to contest data roaming charges on " About . com " where there are some examples of writing letters and what to include/not include.0 -
Is roaming activated on your OSF plan? As I said above, it wasn't on my less than 1-year old Dolphin 25 plan.
What the hell is an OSF plan?I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0 -
He has two phones. One is OSF. OSF plan is the one he uses with his OSF phone.0

the amount of times posts like this appear is quite shocking,ok,there are the usual people who say its all in the terms and conditions and price structure, but, how many people when buying a phone look past the included allowances...maybe as far as the call charges outside of allowances.
as a previous poster said they got charged £200 to look at one photo, now come on its not hard to work out that charges like this can only be classed as legalised theft.
perhaps getting in touch with the phone companies is the wrong way to go about it,legislation needs to be sorted out to control this otherwise phone companies will continue to milk it and in many ways abuse it with the ever increasing use of smart phones.0 -

Great sentiments. I agree completely.
But, back to August 2011 and the reality that is now. Just what practical advice can you give to people who have to live within the "legalised theft laws" that currently exist?
Might that advice include "RTFM", learn about your device, read up on the network's charges? Or have you some other magic bullet?

nope...no other advice apart from read the terms and conditions...:rotfl:...but as we all know in reality this doesnt occur in probably most cases....many people get a new toy and just want to play...even the instructions go out of the window...i keep getting that episode of the youngones in my head....and all they keep saying is oooh have we got a video....in fact off to watch it now....:j0 -

So maybe you are - like me - one of the "usual people" who advise to learn about the handset, data costs, data usage etc. Great if you are.
However, there are a number of posters who come on here to bleat about huge bills, have clearly not bothered to do any pre-reading and then want to blame someone else. Incredibly, they have their vocal supporters who also need to join the blame culture as well.
This site even warns people - but, of course, if they can't be bothered to read about their hanset or their network charges, then there's no chance of them reading any warnings on here.
But, for those of you who might like to warn friends, then look here
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-data-roaming
It begins as follows
If you're not careful, using the web abroad could rack up a bill of £100s or even £1,000s. It can cost as much as £3/MB in Europe and up to £10/MB around the rest of the world, just to look at 10 "made for mobile" web pages.
The most sensible plan is to turn your phone off all together; but if you can't, there are ways to slash costs. This guide shows you how to avoid nasty shocks and if you must use your smartphone, how to get the cheapest data access wherever you are in the world.
Given the number of recent posts, any chance of a sticky to this link mods??0 -
Might that advice include "RTFM"
Is that an RTFM plan with an RTFM phone?!?He has two phones. One is OSF. OSF plan is the one he uses with his OSF phone.
Still gibberish to me.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0
