Looking at the figures in the post from getmore4less you are seriously understaffed. You need a minimum5 full time posts not 2 full time & 3 part time. This shortage of staff causes stress to the ones who do work and has serious issues for sickness compounding the problem.

Purcel, it sounds as if you are very much being taken advantage of. In your position I would be looking for another job.

It is totally unreasonable for your employer to place the demands on you that they do. It sounds as if you are regularly being asked to work in contravention of the European working time directive, andyou are asking the staff that you manage to do the same. Is it any wonder that staff (including you) are unhappy with their jobs - can't plan a life outside of work, work must be your life (and I suspect for little more than minimum wage).

There are better employers than this out there. Find one who appreciates your work ethic rather than takes advantage of it. In the meantime, treat the staff who you manage in the way that you know that YOU deserve to be treated as an employee.

Trust me, i've been looking for anothe job for a little while now with no luck, but I won't give up! I really try my hardest but with no support from any of my managers there is little i can do, i've got no influence at all with regards to getting more staff in, I wish I would! I've asked for training many times, didn't happen and don't think it will

This is key what are the contracted hours and holiday allowances.

Once - a few years ago when I *did* take time off sick (combination of stress, severe depression, nasty managers and lots of family dying one after the other (seriously), I was at home, sick, with flu.

And the Office Manager rang up and woke me up where I was asleep and ill.

I was so shocked, I didn't ever think someone would/should ring up someone who's supposed to be sick at home.

If HR or a company are so bothered about a sickness record it should be brought up. It never was with me.

They should be contactable at the discretion of the line manager.

I often commit to calling staff at home "later" to find out how they are, without giving a specific time. If they're sick at home, it's no problem. If they have made other plans for the day, then they are confined to their own home.

How would you know that they were at home if you called them on a mobile because they either didnt have a landline no. or they hadnt given it to you?

But who said it WAS harrassment?

Well post #5 said "you could be reported for harrassment" which rather suggests that they thought it was a serious possibility. (I haven't read all of the posts in between.)
