Does the sickness reporting procedure put the responsibility with the employee to inform or encourage the line manager to make the contact?Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0

Nobody is ever too sick to take a phone call. She is taking the mick.
That is a sweeping statement.People who are critically ill cannot take a phone call, they are usually on life support and unconscious.
When I was on long term sick, Occupational Health called me repeatedly in the afternoon always waking me up from a much needed sleep. Despite requests not to telephone they continued. I wrote and complained. It is abysmal treatment by yourself to your member of staff and you should be ashamed.I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
According to our policy, the employee is required to keep in touch, but also we can make regular contact so we can check on the recovery or offer any assistance.0

But thats not really your motive for contacting her though is it.
While you await her call, have a plan "b" on stand-by.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -

She's sick with food poisoning apparently, so that's not on life support or unconscious, or critically ill.0 -
my works policy is that unless theres a sick note to cover an illness the employee must ring in first thing in the morning , if the person in question is saying her doctor recommends she is off it should be easy for her to get a sick note .This is a system account and does not represent a real person. OP, I empathise with you as I am in job I hate, I've been looking for something else with no luck, I am stuck as I have a mortgage to pay and cannot afford not to have a job. My manager just doesn't care as he is unavailable all the time, if I am lucky to catch him for 5 min a week is good. 2 members of my team are constantly sick, leaving the other 3 to cover,I end up working 65 h weeks, 12 h shifts, and every weekend and I have no family life. Soo dreading coming to work every day
Purcel - its fair to say that morale in your workplace must be rock bottom and this may be affecting colleagues relationships with each other.
I suspect you really need to sit your manager down with the team and tell him how bad things are and he needs to improve his performance - for everyones sake.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
Staff can always fall ill when other staff are on leave. What's your contingency plan for that situation? You have no proof, and throwing around accusations.
You are demanding that an ill person should be woken up? Are you real?
You have no staff to cover = poor management.
No, just a very small team, with one already in holiday!!.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0
