Son going on 18-30s holiday. I'm terrified !!!

Hi all, I know this isn't money saving but just need to get rid of some of my anxiety and to see if anyone can give some reassurance if you have teenagers.

My only child turned 18 recently and is off on his first lads holiday abroad next week. I am really anxious about him going, terrified that something bad will happen to him. I know 18-30s holidays are full of boozy activities which is ok I suppose, i think it's the fact that lads can think they are indestructible sometimes can't they. Well you here it all the time on the news. Drowning, falling off balconies, ski jet accidents ect ect.

He is a good sensible kid really. Am I being neurotic ???? I know I was 18 once and need to let him live. I just can't get this feeling out of my head.
I think it may stem from a tragedy that happened 3 years ago. My dad was killed in an attack on the street. 2am in the morning was woken up by commotion, went outside to investigate and was killed. I suppose I'm a little wary about something bad happening again.

Anyway how did you cope when your little ones suddenly grew up and went on their 1st holiday ??.

Thanks guys.

My 17 year old lad goes to Maguluf on Thursday. I feel your pain.

I worry about balconies not sure why they have never bothered me before, but a combination of 10 lads, alcohol and climbing makes me *shudder*

Other than that i'm fine :D

You hear about it on the news because they are rare occurrences. If they happened every single day they wouldn't be deemed newsworthy because it would be a case of "same-old, same-old" so when they do happen the media pounces on it.

If you take the recent story of the two men who were murdered in Florida - it made the news because 1.4 million Britons visit Florida each year and for the vast majority of them nothing "bad" happens. People may fall victim to pickpockets/theft, scams and maybe a few drunken fights but on the whole most people's experiences while in Florida are trouble free. Hence, when those two men lost their lives it became a huge story because it is an exception to the accepted norm.

I have already mentioned to his dad that I think I might book a holiday to the same place but a different resort, he told me to get a grip and we cant do that.

Oh I know exactly where you are coming from, my son turns 18 on New Year's Eve and is already planning his first holiday! I know I will also be worried sick.
If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in :D

Mine goes on Thursday also but to Koz. I was a couple of resorts down from Magaluf a few weeks ago and we had pick ups there on the way back to the airport. All the youngsters that got on the coach were still very White :) looked like they'd not seen any sun all week. Must have been in bed all day :rotfl:

I so want him to have a good time, I'm just going to have to accept he's going and that's that !! Il keep myself occupied as much as possible. I know he will be fine just silly thoughts really. ;)

Yes I said that also :) a bit like that programme, sun sea and suspicious parents :o not recommended viewing if you have a teenager about to go on holiday, I had to have a sneaky watch though;)

Is that the teenage equivalent of letting your child go to the shops by themselves for the 1st time and you just happen to have driven there too cos you'd forgotten to tell them to get something? :o:whistle:
