• Evening all,

As midnight tonight marks the end of the very first week of the MSE Olympics, I thought it useful to provide instructions on how to submit your total. Stay tuned, as that's coming up in just a moment. First, lets welcome our newest members. These guys and gals weren't in the original list, but have since signed up to the challenge, so a big warm welcome for the following Olympians please:

ancasta Bronze
Frugal Fox Gold
ftbworried Bronze
havekidsamskint Bronze
jubblinsm Bronze
Leopardlady Silver
miss saver Bronze
monki_man Silver
mophead Bronze
plattinum Bronze
thecutestlittlefish Bronze
tinytot143 Bronze
xxisabellexx Silver
*KKH_KISH* Bronze

Good luck peeps. PM me for any inaccuracies. We've also had our first first challenge upgrade:

MonstersMummy has upgraded from the bronze challenge to the silver, almost doubling her challenge target. Good Luck MonstersMummy.

This brings the number of Olympians to a grand total of 118 - a fantastic achievement, but we have space for so many more. Tell your friends, both online and offline, and make sure you promote the Olympics in your signature so that every MSE'r knows what we're doing!

Submitting your totals

Its the end of an intense week of Olympics. The size of this thread has grown exponentially, and anyone joining now has a frightening 630+ posts to deal with!

We now need to tally up everyone's totals. Trawling through all the sigs will take me forever, so I would ask that you either PM or email me your totals sometime tomorrow (or tonight if you're not going to make any more money between now and midnight), and I shall endeavour to update the spreadsheet sometime in the next few days, and publish the updated results on a wednesday (altho' its my 25th on Tuesday, so the results may be a tad late this week!).

Please note that there are currently 118 Olympians, but there is a 50 message limit on my PM inbox. As such, you may find it full. My preferred message of communication is email. My email address is philltownsNOSPAM@googlemail.com (remove the capital letters). Please remember to include your MSE username. If you would prefer not to use email, feel free to PM me instead, although if my inbox is full, you may have to wait until I have had a chance to clear some messages.

I'm planning to publish the results in a short newsletter, so if you have any interesting stories about your challenge, I'd love to hear them. I am also looking for an MSE Olympics logo, so if you've got a bit of spare time and are feeling a bit arty, feel free to email me your logo design.

Good luck again to all.

Just listed a few more books on amazon and put all the stuff I have on there together - 41 items :j

Also have about 30 items that it's not worth putting on there as most are 1p items that will cost a fair bit to post so putting them on the online small ads where I work in hope I'll clear some of them.

Whilst on Amazon I noticed a fair number of new people, obviously don't know if there the people who have started listing things in connection with this challenge but a tip for you:

If you have an item to sell and the lowest price for the condition is say £1 also list yours for £1 as opposed to 99p. Some people (particularly big commericial sellers) have software/people which checks their items are the lowest price and if not lowers by 1p. However if the prices match they don't do anything. So it's worth matching rather than undercutting otherwise pretty quickly (if you keep repeating the process) you can get from £1 down to 99p, then 98p etc and before you know that small profit will disappear or even become a loss

As I said don't know if it applies to anyone here but don't want people loosing money as a result. It's also a good idea to check your open listings once a week and look at any big differences between your price and the lowest price (or if you're the lowest price check you're not underpricing).

Lots more tips on the amazon thread on the ebay etc. board I know but thought these might help someone.

It depends on their condition. Have a look on Amazon and see what sort of prices the same books are being sold for. You can search by the ISBN number on the back of the book. Then match the lowest price, which may be 1p or maybe much more.

Hmmm, technically you are saving money you would have spent anyway, but you're not actually making any. Your overall change in bank balance is negative.

I would say (in classic buck-passing fashion) its your call. If you feel that you should be able to add it to your total, go ahead and do so.

I personally would think its only valid if you then stick the cost of the 'free' item into your 'invisible pot' and use it to pay off debts (which is the aim of this forum and challenge). If you just spend it on something else, it doesn't count.

thanks for your thoughts on the BOGOF and multibuys. I won't be including those in my Olympic Challenge.

I have another £27 to add in as :
£12 is a Tesco voucher which I used today so saved £12 off my shopping
and
£15 is some M&S vouchers which I was given for xmas but am using them to buy another friend's pressie so will save £15.

Have just listed lots more on ebay including SW books for anyone who is interested (not that I am meant to be encouraging people on here to spend more money;) )

goes off to change my sig

Another £20.03 from a sale on ebay and 3 of my current listings have bids on them (albeit quite low at the moment) so hoping to have a reasonable week ahead.

Well done, everyone, for an excellent start - and for those still to get off the mark, there is loads of time left to catch up!
