  • You get a fixed postage credit of about £2.50. So if your book is light, and you can post it for, say, 60p, you get to keep the rest of the postage credit as profit. Use recycled jiffy bags and send second class to maximise profits.

1p books NOT a good idea for heavy stuff. You WILL lose money. I sold an encyclopedia for £17. Cost me £16.50 or thereabouts to post it to Milan. Grrrrr!

Watch out with Amazon as you are supposed to use new packaging. However, I've used good 2nd hand envelopes and never had a complaint.

Thanks for that, didn't realise. Luckily I have used new packaging though. Goes to show it pays to read all the info!

I always think listing on an ebay 10p/5p day is a bad idea, as there are so many auctions going on, and it becomes a buyer's market.

As for Amazon, how many books are you people putting on!? I have about 30-40 up there, and get maybe 1-2 sales a month, if I'm lucky!

    Hi WOA,
I am one of the regular selling on the amazon selling thread and I have a bit of business going so I tend to sell around 30-40 per month on a stock level of 700 books. My stocks are low now because of christmas and Jan is slow so only sold 7 this week. On the amazon board we have worked out a ratio of approximately 1:10 or 1:15, which means for every 10-15 books you have listed you should sell 1 a month, hope that helps you, although it's not cut and dry coz if you had 30 new books in the top 100 hundred at the lowest price it would be very different!

Just for info you get £2.75 postage credit for books and if you are not a pro-merchant seller it is definitely a bad idea as you will have the 86p item fee as well as other fees coming off that, if you are pro-m you don't have the 86p fee so it is doable on a light book, but only a tiny profit. Personally I never list below 99p for fiction books and that way I get £3.07 profit after fees and the book will cost no more than £1.39 to send so I will make just over £1.50 on it if its as heavy as the £1.39 books. I never list non-fiction below £3 because they tend to be heavier. Just remember to weigh the book before you price it.

  • Well i'm off to a slow & steady start - don't want to burn myself out lol.

Sold a few things on e-bay, done a mystery shop - nothing too spectacular. I am aiming to make £12 per day  a little behind at the moment but i have sorted absolutly LOADS for e-bay/car boot (not till the weathers a bit warmer). The kids keep moving around as OH told them they'll end up on ebay if they sit still for too long :rotfl:

Good luck everyone & keep up the good work.
