  • I reckon that the way to complete the challenge is to hammer one particular method. Take Amazon, as its probably the best example. Sell what you've got. Assume you get £30 from it. Go to the charity shop (or even better car boots), buy £30 worth of stock and list it all again. Keep at it. Go until you have 500+ books listed and keep growing your stockpile. Not great for decluttering, but good for sales, if you have the space.

Perhaps you'll choose eBay. Use Freecycle to get some goodies (that, lets face it, were going to be thrown out anyway) and ebay them. If you think its immoral, donate 50% of your profits to a charity. Everyone's a winner!

As a moderator of a Freecycle group - PLEASE - tell the person giving you stuff, that you plan to sell it on. This in the Freecycle rules and if you don't you are likely to be given a strike or a ban. I am receiving a box of books to sell on Amazon today, through Freecycle, but I told the person offering the books that is what I was going to do.
ilovefreegle.org - give it away don't throw it away :)

There are certainly no such rules written on the freecycle yahoo groups I use. Nor could I find anything on the freecycle.org website saying that the above is a rule. All it says is no trading, but this wouldnt be trading as you're not offering something in return. What we're doing is stopping things going to landfill. What one chooses to do with them is irrelevant.

I would say use your discretion. Telling someone you plan to sell something on is likely to result in you hardly ever being given anything. Or the people offering the items, requesting a cut of what you make.

I personally wont tell people I'm planning to sell on. But I will usually donate a portion of the proceeds to my local youth group.
  • Hi
I have a lot of books mostly stored in a box from when we moved 2 years ago (my Mantra is "if I haven't used it in the last year its going to be sold")
is it best to sell them via amazon or ebay?

    Amazon, without a doubt.
  • OK thanks
2nd question I have registered with a few cash back sites but they only seem to give you money back when you buy stuff, do any give you cash when you are selling tried to look at the ones for amazon but couldn't find any info.

Highly unlikely. The big websites like Amazon and eBay wont. There may be the odd place that does. Perhaps if you list a car with a car selling site, you may get a set amount of points. But its not a regular thing. The main reason being that these are cashback sites - you give someone cash and they give you a little back. When selling, you're not handing over any cash.
