You might want to check your facts before spouting nonsense...

    So why is that nonsense?

Because what you have said is completely wrong...

Some Howdens branches take this "trade only" route to ridiculous lengths. For instance a friend of mine had a broken hinge on one of his Howdens units. He went to see them and was told that he could not buy the replacement hinge as he was not trade!

So you are saying that out of the (minimum) £1500 that Magnet Retail charge for fitting, that ALL of that goes to the fitters?

If you wanna know, then blag yourself a howdens trade account - make some headed paper and say you other half has just finished workign for a builder and is going it alone and you'd like a cash account and to know what discounts they can offer as your looking around at them and jewsons etc.

I'd just go to ikea, but thats me.

I'm not saying that at all. What I AM saying is that what you said, about them only getting £500 from a £1500 fit cost, is wrong. I'm obviously not going to go into too much detail about their business model, but it is more than you quoted.

And before you go into a rant about how expensive Magnet's fitting charge is in the first place, bear in mind that it is cheaper than all the sheds prices and you also get a two year guarantee on the install.

It may be more than I quoted, but the fitters aren't getting the full £1500 that Magnet Retail Charges for fitting. The OP was ranting on about being ripped off by a fitter who may want to make a few quid on a mark up, but I am trying to make the comparison that other retailers, including Magnets actually rip off customers to a far greater extent by charging top dollar for their products and then overinflate the fitting charge and make a massive rake off from it.

So what you are saying is:

It's ok for a fitter to make extra money from a customer, but it's not ok for a retailer to do the same.

What I am saying is that it is perverse that the OP doesn't question Magnets fitting charges when everyone in the trade knows that the fitters don't see any where near that amount of money, but doen't think it is acceptable that a small indpendent fitter should make a margin on the cost of the products.

that's not what I am saying at all I am merely stating That is what they charge.. I have no idea what their fitters get paid or how they are paid ( hourly whatever) .
