Howdens why don't they JUST give you a price??

Options
Last week I found a kitchen fitter who said he would fit a kitchen (small about 11 units) for £800 I wanted Cooke and Lewis units from B&Q but he said NO better idea would be Howdens. SO he arranged the guy from Howdens to come..

This could turn out to be a HUGE RIP OFF as I have found out they don't tell ME how much it is but tell the fitter WHO can then add a nice little profit and still look as though he is doing the Job for 800!! no thank you I would rather know HOW much it is going to cost BEFORE fitting please -- NO WONDER they don't like you going to B&Q!!

I honestly don't understand what you're so unhappy about.

Let's say the B&Q kitchen was £1,000 to source and an equivalent Howden's one was £900. Because you don't know how much the fitter paid for the Howden's one, would you rather pay the extra £100 for the B&Q one? I know I wouldn't.

Have you priced the units at B&Q anyway?
We have just had a quote from a joiner to fit our kitchen and he is using Howdens, we don't know how much our units are costing either but on the whole it is a reasonable price for the whole job. IMO Howdens are better units than B&Q. Just see how both B&Q and Howdens work out pricewise. Then go to your nearest Howdens and take a look and compare them both.

Of course Howdens wont give you a price. You aren't their customer. The fitter is their customer, they are trade only for a reason...

As above, your fitter is the one in the trade, he gets trade terms not you. If you want to know the price for the units then you should go in to Howdens yourself and pay full retail prices. It will cost you a good 30-40% more but at least you will know how much they cost... afterall who needs money right? :D

Firstly Howdens units are 10 times better quality than b+q, they are already assembled, saving you labour costs as you would have to pay your fitter to build the b+q units.

Why don't you ask your fitter for a copy of the Howdens recipt and allow him a ten percent markup.

If the units you are getting are good value including fitting, get them. I have one of their kitchens and am impressed by the quality, the drawer bottoms are thick and it looks and feels like a quality product

Cannot see the fitter being interested about doing the job for less than he has quoted

I bet all the kitchen fitters are just queuing up to work for someone like you.

Having just sorted Mums place out, Howdens was almost a third of the price of the similar B&Q kitchen. Her fitter came with me when purchased at Howdens, so getting his discount but I paid immediately for it.
