Firstly Howdens units are 10 times better quality than b+q, they are already assembled, saving you labour costs as you would have to pay your fitter to build the b+q units.

    I agree 100 %

better quality and ready made, saves a lot of labour putting everything together.

Maybe the joiner had priced this as well, because £800 is a bit high for what should be a days work, or 1 1/2 days if he is slow

God, not a 'How much do Howdens REALLY charge' thread.

Do a 4-year chippy apprenticeship, then you will know the answers..... Jeez

I can see where you are coming from, but you are not being done as explained above. It is the overall cost that counts, and the quality. Do a Google and find out what people think of Howdens.

If I go Anywhere else they tell me the price of units plus fitting. IF Howdens told me the price of their units -- they must have a price , then I would know whether or not the fitter was ripping me off or not. The way they do it I might have EXACTLY the same kitchen as next door but pay more for it because the fitter has added his cut in. I might therefore get two quotes from fitters for fitting for 800 but find that one adds on an 12% and another an extra 5% SO it is IMPOSSIBLE to know how much they cost.

Howdens do not deal with the public direct only trade so i can not buy retail as someone suggested.

Notice that Magnet charge 1500 + for fitting but at least they tell you the price.

That's only Magnet Retail though, NOT Magnet Trade. Magnet Trade wont give you a price either, it goes to the fitter...

So you would be happy to pay £1500 for fitting?

Its Magnet Retail that will be ripping you off, not your local independent fitter. Magnet just subcontract their fitting to self employed fitters. Out of that £1500, the fitter will only be getting £500 of that. The rest goes to Magnets bottom line. So who is ripping you off now?
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.

Ask for quotes from other fitters, but say you already have Howden's units so just want the fitting costs

You might want to check your facts before spouting nonsense...
