£5000 data roaming bill on 5 days abroad - Orange

Hi,
I was wondering if I could get any advice or suggestions here.
The short of it is - I didnt add a roaming bundle before I left - I was under the assumption that there was a £60 cap OR my provider(orange) would warn me if going over a certain amount.
I know that vodaphone and o2 send a text to their costumers after a certain amount.
I returned to a £5000 bill on data alone!
After speaking to them, they have agreed to reduce the cost to £1000 - which I AM very grateful for, however it still does not seem fair!
Since complaining they have decided to send me texts about my data use (only now!).
They have a very clear complains procedure and escalation process.
Am I being unreasonable or should I just be thankful that they have reduced the 5000 to 1000?
My phone bill usually is about £60
Suggestions, advice or anything is hugely appreciated

When you roamed there would be an sms detailing the charges. They've also removed 80% of the overage...0

well you must have been hammering the data abroad
so did you think it was fine as you would only be charged £60,so go for it?0 -
£60 limit where did you hear that from theres no such thing when will people learn DONT USE YOUR PHONES ABROAD unless its an emergency
you used 557 megabytes of usage going by the sums
your lucky they knocked it downReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0 -

557mb is hardly hammering it but they should have thought about their usageReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. There in lie's the real issue here...gabriellala wrote: »I know that vodaphone and o2 send a text to their costumers after a certain amount.
Comparison with other networks isn't valid - they are all different costs, different systems.gabriellala wrote: »After speaking to them, they have agreed to reduce the cost to £1000 - which I AM very grateful for, however it still does not seem fair!
Letting you off 80% of the cost doesn't seem fair? In what way? You assumed and didn't check, its not their responsibility to check.gabriellala wrote: »Since complaining they have decided to send me texts about my data use (only now!).
Its probably something they can do, but there is not an obligation for them to do.gabriellala wrote: »They have a very clear complains procedure and escalation process.
What are you going to complain about? The problem you have is they haven't done anything wrong, lik you said from the outset your view was based on assumption and unfortunately that assumption was wrong.gabriellala wrote: »

I'd rip their hand off - they have no real reason to provide you an 80% discount on what you have actually used.gabriellala wrote: »

But you don't go abroad all the time - so its to be expected your bill would be higher.
Sorry but I think an 80% discount on the cost is a very fair offer considering you have clearly used stacks of data (doing what?) - blaming it on the network not telling you you were spending a fortune is just not realistic.
£5000 is a serious amount of data.0 -
thats would be the (UK) limit for Oranges 'unlimited' data package for a month
yes which may seem like a huge amount but with iphones and android dont mean much these daysReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. OP where and when did you go abroad - specifics please....0

I have an Android (HTC Desire) and get 500MB included in my monthly plan, and never use anywhere near that, so I would agree that 550MB in 5 days is pretty full on! The only exception would be if using it for work, but presumably there'd be no issue for most people in that instance as the company would be paying for it0
