New HTC Desire S - Wifi 'connected' - but not able to access internet.

Is router configured properly to accept the mac address for the phone?
OP I don't understand why you have been taken down this route as MAC filtering is only required if you switch it on on the router and most people don't.
I had a similar issue with my Wildfire in that it suddenly would not connect to the router at work. I found by letting it use DHCP instead of a static IP (which had been working fine) it started to work once I had disabled static IP on the phone and switched Wi-Fi off and then on, on the phone.0 -

Hi, the thing is - my phone is connecting to the router, but and a wifi signal strength sign is shown (and it's good), but I'm not able to browse the internet... it just seems so bizarre. The static IP box is actually unticked on my phone...0 -
Have a read of this

There are comments regarding the issue with desire S and wifi - it may apply to you.
I can't think of any other reasons for the problem - if no one else comes up with a better idea, it might be an idea to do a factory reset of the phone (you will lose its contents but if its new - you may have nothing important on it yet).
And if it still fails to work, contact htc support or the retailer.0 -

My phone's IP address is 192.168.1.64; and the static IP box is ticked...
My IP address according to those 'what's your IP address' sites is different for my laptop it seems.Tigersilly wrote: »Hi, the thing is - my phone is connecting to the router, but and a wifi signal strength sign is shown (and it's good), but I'm not able to browse the internet... it just seems so bizarre. Well it made no difference whether it was ticked or not... I had been given suggestions and one was to change Static to dynamic etc.
I was able to connect to BT Openzone, although I hadn't signed up so I could only download the access page.
Doesn't seem to be an issue with the phone then... perhaps the router then...0
