Hi Looby, putting a potato (raw) in is meant to help if you have oversalted a dish - may be worth trying with your chilli?

Thanks, I've just bunged one in. You never know it might work!

Could you add a few more veggies, like some grated carrot, courgette etc, just to bulk it out and maybe disperse the heat a bit? Or chuck in another tin of tomatoes?

Just done a quick google search (how sad am I!!:rotfl: ) and apparently adding lemon or lime juice can also counteract the heat. HTH

Stick Sellotape all round the insides of your mouth and tongue, so the chilli does not come into contact with you.

Eat your chilli enthusiastically and with mucho gusto, while your OH is desperately trying to retain his masculinity by concealing the fact that his mouth is burning in agony. Mention that it's not as hot as usual, and would he like some extra chilli powder/flakes on it?

    ;o)

OK well I'm back after having my Chilli!!. The inside of my mouth is tingling! I'm dead proud of myself for managing to eat it, although being starving hungry played a big part! lol

I don't know if the potato thing worked or not really - hard to tell!

OH is working late and I'm just wondering if I should be really mean and put another spoon of chilli powder in the pot! Perhaps not actually as there is loads there and we might want to freeze some for another time.

Eat the potato: if it burns like hell then it absorbed some of the chilli. :D
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
