Too Hot Chilli

now forgive me if i've got this wrong, it's only an idea...remember the thing where, if you've put too much salt in something, a peeled+chopped potato dropped in for a while is supposed to soak it up (you then throw the spud away!)
might this work with other over-done flavours, e.g.chilli?
haven't tried it, but just an idea.0 -
Capsaicin, the chemical that makes it 'hot' is not water soluble. You need to add something that can dissolve it or neutralise it. Dairy products contain casein which neutralises, pulped pineapple is acidic and will help, (blend it up fine and you will hardly notice it is there), anything fatty, like oil or cheese, will help, and drinking full fat milk while you are eating it will help too! Finally, you can use alcohol too, but you need to make sure the alcohol isn't evaporated off while you cook, and that is least effect method really. When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.0

When this happens to me, I serve it 'as is' but with a big dollop of sour cream/creme fraiche/fromage frais/plain yoghurt (depending on what's in the fridge) which makes it edible, and tastes nice tooThat man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest. Henry David Thoreau0

Just to add again the whole "serve it with something else" idea
- perhaps you could stick the other two portions in tacos and eat with sour cream/guacamole(sp!?), salad etc. that ought to take the kick out of it a little.0 -
stir half a lemon through it a few times. Should do the trick.0

Is there anything I can do to cool it down apart from throwing a bucket of water on it!!!! lol:rotfl:
My OH will probably be OK with it but I can't eat it that hot!!!
ANy advice??0 -
Serve it with plain yoghurt? That takes the heat out.
Or you could possibly make another batch which is underseasoned and mix together. Will obviously create 1)time issues and 2) a lot of chilli!0 -
Thanks for the quick answer Paulies Girl but unfortunately the only yogurt I have got in the house is strawberry flavoured and I haven't got time to make up another batch of chilli.
I think I'm going to be rather red faced and hot eating this chilli unless I find a solution!!!!0 -
Hi Looby, putting a potato (raw) in is meant to help if you have oversalted a dish - may be worth trying with your chilli?AMAZON SELLERS CLUB MEMBER 0082 :hello:0
