Good Evening everybody,
Hi rictus123, is it ok if I 'kind of' join you in your challenge. I've been reading your thread this past week and have been giving it some thought and whilst I think a complete month is a bit much for me to achieve at the moment I was thinking I might try it for one week, then start again and try it for 2 weeks, and then hopefully progress up to 1 month.
Having said that, and assuming you would say it's ok to join, I've done a massive shop today and have bought stuff that should definately last me the month, and as I've paid on my credit card it will have to last as my housekeeping money will now need to pay off the cc on 16th Sept
So here's my pledge, to not spend any money until Sat 13th Aug, other than the usual mortgage, utilities, phones, petrol etc, and also with the exception of bananas as I forgot to get some and they are a definate NEED, and not a want, according to my hubby anyway :rotfl:
Good luck everybody with the rest of your week/month :T0 -
Winchelsea you made me lol with you moth challenge
keep it up guys you're doing great!! Xxx
Life is too short not to love what you do.0 -
Well its Sunday, tomorrow will be a week into the challenge! Im flying, loving this challenge. Today is the day i will know about how hard this challenge could be. Its Sunday and its my only day off in the week...spend it with gf but need to find stuff to keep us busy and away from shops. We have a dvd for later and there is football on all day so that could keep me busy...not sure if she will be keen to watch it though!!
6 NSDs down, today should be another as shocking weather so doubt il want to leave the house...or even drive anywhere so save fuel!
Today should be number 7 out of 31.......almost a quater the way there.Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.

I'm in. Fab idea for a thread.
I won't make the whole month as going away on the 27th August but until then I'm going to try for as many NSD as possible. My rent and bills are paid for August and I have a fridge full of food so I'm going to see how long I can make it last.
The main issue I have is the pressure I get to go out for drinks after work/out for lunch/evening meals. I work in a high pressured job and the people around me spend a fair amount of money socialising together. When I say I don't have the money to go out/want to go home to cook people look at me like I have two heads. It's honestly so bad that I pretended I wasn't feeling well on Friday and turned my phone off, just to get myself out of the traditional Friday after work drinks!
Last week a girl I work with was honestly trying to tell me that eating lunch out actually costs less than bringing my own to work. :rotfl:
This month I'm going to be strong and just keep saying no.
Here's to today being my first no spend day in August. :beer:Debt at 1/5/09 £21,996 _pale_

FireWyrm Update : Day 6 & 7 - unallocated spend of £1.50 because someone (yes I'm looking at yu Dh) forgot to mention the lack of tinned tomatoes in the house. My fault for not looking but in my defence, I was trying to buy a house at the time and a little distracted. I've broken the challenge, but will still keep trying for the rest of the month. I HAVE to do something about my 'grocery' spend which is my term for what we are doing here. It's typically running at about £30 per month overspend on the budget and it's !!!!ing me off!Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

Great thread. I'm away for a week from tomorrow on holiday but will aim to catch up with you all, and maybe join in, when I get back - it's a really good ideaTrying to keep in budget.

Tinned tomatoes FireWyrm - i think they are allowed as food - it's more spend nothing but what you actually need to live on.....and food's ever so helpful in thecontinuing to breathe dept:p:D.
Had a good weekend, topped up on some fresh veg and fruit on Saturday, £6.81 and spent nothing yesterday. Sunday is my most likely to hibernate day so it's the easiest day.0 -
I failed on the first day of my new challenge. I hadn't told my housemate about my spend nothing challenge and he came home with take out. I couldn't resist and ate it. $9 spent.
I know it's food but take out was non essential, I had food in the fridge.
Oh well, I've asked him not to bring me anything I have to pay for home without checking with me first now, so here's to my first NSD today! :jDebt at 1/5/09 £21,996 _pale_

Have spent money today!!!
£3.89 in Sainsb**y (but then that was food) - then £1.50 in the library (reservation fees on two books - but cheaper than getting then from a bookshop), then £1.80 to post a package I'd promised to send to a friend.
On the food front, I am trying to live on supplies already in the house, but did need a little top-up, particularly bananas (but as someone else said - sorry, can't recall who - they are essentials!)
So not too bad. Good luck to everyone else.Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0
