The legs are very much recovered now, thank you!
Good news on the debt coming down - it is a fab feeling isn't it!!
And you are over the worst of that loan too - on the home straight now!

That's great news about the debt and about both jobs :T

What is the worst that will happen? You accept the job, find it doesn't "work" or you don't enjoy it, and you leave, going back to what you do at the moment. Agree with this, i think the discipline of it will be good for your freelance stuff too!
If that is the worst that will happen, then the best must be pretty good! Just make sure you make the most of the next few months, moneywise - you don't want to get to the end of your contract and find you have not actually benefitted in any way from the extra income. So whether it is throwing some at the debt, putting extra aside for tax and emergency savings, having a holiday, or a combination of all three....., you don't want to look back and say "what was the point of doing that?".......
Good luck with it - when would you start?
Also agrree with the putting aside the money thingy. Your family needs a cheap holiday somewhere so plan this into the money you receive for these two jobs. That way you won't feel guilty later on.
I think it is brilliant that you have got both jobs, it shows that you still have marketable skill in one of the toughest economic climate of recent times!
So you rock
Edited to add, well done on getting halfway through the loan. And guess what I bet that it is the last loan you take out for one easy payment lol

Hey, this sounds good, Seaxwyn - so enjoy the "slacker" lifestyle while you can. I've had an early tea, and am off to slack a bit with a final cup of coffee (half decaff).2023: the year I get to buy a car0

How have your clients been about you taking the jobs? I wonder if any of them want you still to do adhoc work for them?
One other thing are either of these jobs PAYE and how does that effect anything? Ie re the tax?

The clients have been OK about me being unavailable for 7 months. Some I have passed onto a friend, so hope that brings me good karma. Some have said they will always contact me anyway in case I'm able to fit it in.
One of the two jobs is PAYE so that will make life a bit easier and next year's tax bill smaller.
However, just as things are about to get easier, we have a pile up of bills and expenses which I can't meet - which just goes to show how unsolvent we are in this present lifestyle. I have to buy a season ticket for commuting, which is nearly £1500, pay for the girls' scout camps, find the money for July's tax bill, as well as some lesser things.
Also we have £10875 on credit cards which come off their 0% in July and rise to 15.9% and 12.9%
So I've been thinking about options.
If I manage to clear my Virgin card, I have 0% on purchases fee-free til December, so I could use that to buy the season ticket.
I have various balance transfer offers - a low LOB on Sainsbury's and an Egg anniversary offer which after five 0% months goes to 10.9%, so still lower than the other 2 cards. And OH has received a 'guaranteed' application form for an Abbey card with a 0% for 15 months offer.
So I'm thinking... transfer as much as possible off the Virgin card to OH's new card (credit limit as yet unknown). Transfer the rest of Virgin balance to Sainsbury's card and Egg if necessary. Use Virgin card to buy season ticket and any other purchases and pay off by December.
Does that sound sensible?Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Sounds sensible to me.
Do your employers offer an interest free loan for the season ticket - when I worked for a city firm, we were able to get an interest free loan purely for the season ticket, and the repayments were taken out of our salary.

I wondered about that too, I shall ask. I've also got a dilemma about whether to join their pension scheme, just for nine months.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620
