Personally, I would take the job........but it is not me that has to make the decision!

At least it is a nice decision to have to make!

I've got over my wobble and will accept the job. Everyone else has to deal with the logistical challenges of work and family life, so why do I think I'm exempt. It is nice to think that for the next 10 months we don't need to worry about enough coming in to cover the bills, we're just changing one set of stresses for another.

What is the worst that will happen? You accept the job, find it doesn't "work" or you don't enjoy it, and you leave, going back to what you do at the moment.

If that is the worst that will happen, then the best must be pretty good! Just make sure you make the most of the next few months, moneywise - you don't want to get to the end of your contract and find you have not actually benefitted in any way from the extra income. So whether it is throwing some at the debt, putting extra aside for tax and emergency savings, having a holiday, or a combination of all three....., you don't want to look back and say "what was the point of doing that?".......

Good luck with it - when would you start?

Congratulations, Seaxwyn. Will you be able to keep on some of your regular freelance clients so you don't lose them, or is that going to be just too much? Whatever, I hope it goes well for you. Scary and exciting at the same time, I expect.

Hypno, I will certainly use the money to pay/save tax and pay off debts, don't worry! But I will also be able to do things like give the children pocket money and have a holiday.

The job starts in the beginning of June, with 2 days handover in May. So I have one month now to enjoy my home-based slacker lifestyle.

Wordsmith, I don't think I'll be able to keep on any freelance clients meanwhile, but I can contact them all when the contracts end in the new year. I may lose some but I feel philosophical about that, new ones will take their place. And some I have worked for for years anyway with gaps between, so I'm sure it will be OK.

It's Mayday and I am £1,199.72 less in debt than on 1 April. Woo hoo!

Imagine if I could do this every month... and for the next nine months, while working full time, perhaps I can!

Another landmark is that I am now half way through paying off my monster loan. There were 84 payments to make when I started, 42 left now. It feels as if it's been hanging over me for ever.
