Woo hoo! I've got a job! Well it's a consultancy contract (so still self-employed) - two days a week from 1 May to 23 December, including a trip to Copenhagen in December. Woo hoo again!

First dilemma: how much should I ask for? The client said their usual day rate is £175 but they "could go up a little" seeing as how I am so experienced! How much is "a little" do you think?

    :T:j Congratulations! :j:T

What is the going rate for someone doing this type of job (with your experience?)? If its higher than this then pitch that amount! You can always compromise...

Even getting £200/day instead of £175 would mean ~£200/month extra (OK less after NI and Tax etc...) eg

    £175 x 2 days x 34 weeks = £11900

    £200 x 2 days x 34 weeks = £13600 in total or £1700 more
    £210 x 2 days x 34 weeks = £14280 in total or £2380 more

    Well done and Good luck!

I don't actually know what the going rate is! The work is project managing a communications project, it's a voluntary sector organisation so rates are probably lower than top whack. You are right - over that many days, every extra tenner a day makes a big difference. .

I'm relieved to have something long-term, the last year work has been so bitty. This contract should make life a lot easier.

Oh Seaxwyn, I am so pleased for you and your family. It should help to ease the pressure and maybe help you to focus on your other commitments. Have you hear anything from the maternity cover job? I should find out on Friday about the job I was interviewed for, however we are away.

I have another interview for the maternity cover job on 28 April. Lucielle I hope you have given them a number to contact you on Friday - it would be terrible to miss out because they couldn't reach you!

Congratulations Seawaxyn. I hope that the security longish term will make a big difference to you. Wow you could be in a dilemma soon.

Hi verbatim. There shouldn't be a dilemma because I can do both!
