Woo hoo! I've got a job! Well it's a consultancy contract (so still self-employed) - two days a week from 1 May to 23 December, including a trip to Copenhagen in December. Woo hoo again! THAT IS FLIPPING BRILLIANT NEWS way to go Seaxwyn. I am so happy for you. It must be such a weight off your mind. Now don't forget to put away 20% for your tax bill now :D!

First dilemma: how much should I ask for? The client said their usual day rate is £175 but they "could go up a little" seeing as how I am so experienced! How much is "a little" do you think?

Always a tricky one this. I would suggest that 'a little' means £200, so you should ask for more than this and negotiate back down to £200 if you see what i mean. So ask for £240 and see what they say.

Sorry that I haven't been around but we have had our first new zealand holiday, and our first really bad new zealand lurgy. Ho hum. So I am catching up with a lot of diaries at the moment.

How had OH training gone. Did he pass?

Decision time.... I have been offered the job I went for - if I take it I will be working full-time in London for eight months (as I'm also doing a 2 day/week freelance contract).

I feel really undecided as to what I want. It would be fantastic to have the money, without a doubt.

But it would make family life stressful, with childcare implications on the days when OH works. Managing both jobs would take some juggling too, as the freelance job will have peaks where it won't fit neatly into two days a week....

I said I'd get back to them in the morning, I feel really undecided, my gut feeling isn't pulling me either way. Any help with making the decision would be much appreciated.

hypno, new job is so far so good, thanks for asking! I've done two days 'handover' and start actually doing it next week. It's going to be quite full on, managing a project with lots of outputs in a short timeframe, but it's in an organisation I love, working with great people, so should be good.

It's like buses, everything comes at once. As it is only for 8 months I would go for it and juggle everything as best you can. At the end of the day you have to do whats best for you and yours, but I guess you already know this.
