Hi Hypno
Yes things have certainly changed for us this year. Only trouble is - and I don't mean to sound ungrateful - is that now OH can easily manage the one debt still in his name, he feels rich as Croesus. He enjoys splashing the cash buying new bits for his computer, giving the kids pocket money etc. If you looked in our fridge you'd think you were in a millionaire's house: strawberries and grapes, cartons of juice, tuna steaks and all sorts of tempting treats for the kids' lunchboxes. Oh well, I am just glad he is happy, I will carry on being miserly and paying off what debt I can.
Hope you have something nice planned for today, you must be enjoying having the house to yourselves again.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Me and the children are going to watch the concert for Diana on the telly this afternoon and I am going to make some cheese straws & scones for the freezer and some flapjacks for lunchboxes next week.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Fantastic update - sounds like things will be much easier while Oh has the job - hope it leads to something longer
Well done on all the debt paid off in June - that's brilliant!

Well done on paying off so much of your debt! I was just wondering as I read what you wrote about your OH living like the King of Sheba whilst you still pinch every penny (no offence meant) if there would be any way you could reverse your former roles, where you paid for everything whilst he paid off his debts - he pays for all household things and his debts (including the ones you took on) and you pay yours (or however close to that balance as you can get) - it seems only fair that you also have a chance to chuck everything at your debt whilst not having to worry about everything else for a bit?
I don't mean to sound harsh and I don't think I've explained what I mean very well, but I still wish you all the best - just think what you can achieve in the next 6 months, I'm sure it will be outstanding!2007 Bronze Olympic Challenge: Total £1057.34 :jDFW Nerd 269: Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0 -

Aaaargh!! Tax bill for £800 has just arrived. I had foolishly thought I'd paid enough this year.
That's put paid to any prospect of overpayments this month. B*gger.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Thanks for all the nice comments everyone.
Hypno, could you post or PM me that cheese straws recipe?
Tumbleweed, you're right that would probably be a better approach. But after lots of strife I am happy that we have reached equilibrium and he is contributing. I'm going to keep on setting a good example :A and wait til the time is right to suggest he helps out with the debts more. He is not someone you can hurry. And he's not being selfish exactly - we all get to share in the King of Sheba feasts after all.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
All I was worried about was that you weren't happy with the status quo - but I'm chuffed to hear it's all going so well - and if the King of Sheba luxury food stocks extend to masses of chocolate I reckon you deserve to eat it all and enjoy! Well done you2007 Bronze Olympic Challenge: Total £1057.34 :jDFW Nerd 269: Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0

Not so much masses of chocolate as six kinds of cheese!
I'm not exactly 'happy' with the status quo but less unhappy than I have been.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Mmmm cheese...
Anywho, less unhappy is better than unhappy - it's definitely a step in the right direction, and if things keep going as they have you'll be beyond happy in no time. Sorry if I made you feel bad about the situation, as long as it works for you and you're on your way to happy, I'm very happy for you - and always here if you slip back down the happy-scale and need to vent! What else is DFW for? We all know this is far cheaper and more MSE than therapy :rotfl:2007 Bronze Olympic Challenge: Total £1057.34 :jDFW Nerd 269: Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0
