What a lovely positive post. That's a great turnaround for your DH to have a meeting regarding the lack of pay...I'm proud of him.
I also think going for that job is a fantastic idea...good luck for the interview.

Work is still coming in thick and fast. I've got lots more of those articles to write for the big job - and they have confirmed that they'll pay in April, so in the new tax year - perfect. And of course you are going to put 20% of it away straight away aren't you for next years tax bill :D;)

I'm going to apply for a maternity cover job. It's 3 days a week for 9 months, in London but walkable from London Bridge station (so no tube fare). I don't know what chance I have of getting it, particularly as I've been out of the regular job scene for so many years, but I'll give it a go. If nothing else, it gets you to update your CV, and maybe get some interview practice. And you also know that it is only for 9 months, so if you don't like it you can grit your teeth and soldier on knowing it is for only a relatviely short time.

Meanwhile things are STILL tight financially this month. OH received his payslip which revealed that he's not going to be paid for half the work he did last month. The college is a total shambles! But rather than just letting it slide, he's booked a meeting with the payroll bloke to sort it out.

:T :T Well done to OH for not letting this go. I hope that he gets paid his correct wages asap.

Yesterday was OH's payday and we had a nice surprise as they paid him the full amount he was due. I presented him with the pile of bills I had been saving and he paid them all without protest - over £700s worth. So we are up to date with everything.

However there's not a huge amount of money left and we have the MOT and car tax to pay for. I'm nervous about the MOT - the car is pretty old and cronky.

Also DDs 1&2 are joining the Explorers (Scouts for teenagers), which is £28 a term each, with lots of camps and activities that cost extra. Now DD3 has decided she wants to go to scouts, which I presume costs about the same, which prompted DS to mention Cubs. Aargh!

On top of that, we need to renew our subscription to the Athletics Club, which is £70 for family membership plus £15 to join UKA, which entitles us to enter races. It's good value - the children get coaching three times a week, and it's the basis of our social life really. As one of my DDs competes for the county, we can get a grant to cover half her training costs, I must look into that. I don't know if it would cover club membership though.

I've got an interview for the part-time job I applied for. The interview is with an agency rather than the employer, which I haven't experienced before. It will be a good experience at least. Meanwhile I've got lots of freelance work at the moment, though not very much booked for when the current glut ends. I must, must, must get on with it today.

Good to hear that things are going well for you.

Good luck with the agency interview. I suppose they see you first and put you forward when they've checked you're "suitable"? As it's an agency there might be all sorts of other jobs they suggest for you too.

You seem to be making steady steps in the right direction. Re the athletics grant, we have received a small grant for skiing from our local council for the last couple of years - they do not specify what it is used for as long as it is used in connection with their sport. So last year it went to their French training costs, this year DD got a new pair of ski boots, DS got a new pair of skis that we otherwise couldn't have afforded, and the rest will go towards their spring/summer training fees......so maybe you can use your grant towards the membership because it is all part of the same "training costs".
