Oh sweetie, thats a lot of bad news to take when you're ill. Thats definitely not whingeing. I'm glad your mum could take the little ones off your hands for a bit, but fancy carrying on working when you've got flu. Awful. I know what you mean about being employable too - I've been doing this job for over 20 years, no employer could care less about that .... and I do need something to change fairly soon.
Lots of hugs, tho, hope you can turn the corner soon.

^^^^^^What KC says^^^^ you will be feeling better soon and raring to go.xBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Another low point - I received a voucher for a free return flight to one of 12 European cities. This was a deal from one of my credit cards. But whilst I would love a break more than anything, I don't know anyone in any of the 12 cities so using the free ticket would mean paying for accommodation, which I obviously can't justify doing. So I can't use the ticket. It breaks my heart. When I was younger I would just pack my tent and go, but I feel too old and weary to do that now.
Sorry for yet another whinging post. I think the flu is really bringing me down.
I won't even bother to ask why it was you OH couldn't take them out too whilst you were ill.... sighs
ref the flight deal, why not stay in an youth hostel type thing. You don't have to be young. Or a cheap B&B . The point is ifyou are going to a city you have never been to before it doesn't matter if the room is cheap and a bit down at heel, cos you will be out all day soaking up the culture....
more importantly however you wouldn't have any spending money...
So what about seeing if anyone would buy the ticket off you at a discount (assuming that you are able to sell it )

OH was working all last week - he was pretty good when he was around. I thought about youth hostels, now I'm a bit better from the flu I'm going to rack my brains for a way of using that free flight. Even just going to Nice for a day would be a tonic - it's years since I saw the Mediterranean.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

Glad to hear that you are feeling better and I so hope you can make use of the free flight.0

Thats an idea, Seaxwyn - if you can't afford *any* accommodation, then get the first flight out, and the last flight back.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Did you manage to sort out a way of using the free flight?Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0

Hi, the only thing that works for me in getting free-lance work done is to set myself a time to have to work with a break planned in. Then once I knuckle down I often find myself actually engrossed and miss the break but it isn't easy and I have had to be tough on myself. I didn't do a paper round but I found that getting up early and getting some stuff done before OH and before kids were up made a big difference. Then once I got them off to school I had to get on with work. There is no magic solution you have to find what works for you. If you can make £35 and hour then you have it in you to take yourself in hand and get on with it. I also agree that the budget is worth working hard on. Pay yourself into a svaings account with a 30 days notice or such with whatever interest you can find so that your tax money doesn't get used for short terms shortfalls. You have 30 days notice of the tax bill payments needing to be made. Hope this is helpful.LBM August 2005 £40,000
