I do feel loads better, and I owe it to you, Taxi, as it was you that first suggested asking HMRC for more time. Without that I'm sure I'd be applying for another loan or 0% card now. So thank you!!! You've helped me more than anyone on my debt-free quest.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

Your welcome. That's nice of you to say but I'm not much use really.I try to help where I can(which isn't often as I don't know much).0

That's fantastic news that you can spread your tax bill over the next six months - I would never have thought even of asking!
Does the final payment you've mentioned in July include the second payment on account for this tax year? So if you earn the same or less this tax year compared to the one before, you won't have a balancing payment to make in the following January, which will mean a much less scary bill to pay.
I've been putting off doing my tax return - I've put the information into the HMRC website but I need to double check the figures and hit the submit button. It's today's job but I need to get on and do it!0 -
Do it tyllwyd! It's always better to know what you're dealing with.
Yes the July payment includes the second payment on account - but I have reduced the amount by half so I probably will have something to pay next January, just not such a scary amount.
It's this seesawing between better and worse years that got me into debt in the first place, I'm determined to learn the lesson now, and either save for tax or earn a proportion of my money as PAYE.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Hey Seaxwyn, that sounds fantastic! How lovely to hear you looking forward instead of dreading what's about to come. I'm very pleased for you.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Hi Seaxwyn...glad you're sorted.Tax has been my biggest bug bear in that I was never putting it away.I must admit I'm so relieved that I've changed this year and actually have it put away...Januarys anyway..when back from holiday I will start putting money away for julys and keep on putting it away in readiness for the following year.
I have to be in the mindset that I need to put it away (a percentage) every week regardless of how little/much we earn as it's not my money (really) and the government are renowned for making people bankrupt over tax...if I have little money to pay the bills then I'll need to tighten my belt but remain in budget IYSWIM...it's so hard being S/E isn't it?0 -
